You're right. System 3s cannot be used with Tivo to Go, and you cannot transfer to another Tivo via your network. Tivo support explained to me that the bandwidth currently available for home networks isn't sufficient to transfer, and it would take several days. There would be so many interruptions in the transfer that you'd never get it done.
Plus, the format in which System 3s store programs can't be read and played by another Tivo anyway, or recorded on an external burner. There are currently no System 3s with attached DVD burners, and the file size would be so large that current media probably couldn't hold all of it. There are also some licensing issues.
