component inputs vs. hdmi

I have a Panasonic 50" HD plasma set with an HR10-250 and I am using the component inputs. Would switching to HDMI make a noticable difference in the picture quality? It would be a little hassle to connect HDMI cables because of the way my television is mounted but, if it makes enough difference, I'll do it. If HDMI is just a way of eliminating multiple cables, I'll leave well enough alone.

In principle, it's supposed to be better. In practice, people argue incessently about whether it does anything.

One of the definite benefits is that HDMI will transfer digital audio in the same cable. Therefore, you may be able to lose whatever audio connection you are using now with your component cables and do everything with a single cable.

If your TV is mounted on a wall, this may be a definite plus.

The picture and the audio is better with HDMI then component. The PQ on HD channels is way better. The PQ on Standard channels (non hd) are slightly better. Its the signal coming in that determines that.

the biggest notice in change from component and HDMI is the audio. Escpecially on the HD channels. What I mean is: on HD channels with component hook up, the audio on my set would be like 20 to 24 but same channel with HDMI, the volume setting is like 7-12. Big difference.
