24 season premier DVD. Why I'm buying it

For myself, a TiVo basic subscriber and not networked the season 6 premier DVD is worth the $12.95 so I can Delete those episodes from my TiVo to make room for the rest of the season. I always keep the entire season on it until it comes out as a box set.

This thread. Why we don't care.

Was there an argument about the usefulness of buying the 24 season premiere DVDs that I missed? I don't see why you posted this.

I will be curious to see how many they sell of this. I saw the commercial last night and thought it was a pretty good idea.

The premiere episodes have gotten a lot of buzz and I know there are some people interested but feel like they missed out. This presents a good opportunity for some of those people to catch up.

The DVDs were a great idea in the sense that they were able to get the eps onto BitTorrent like two weeks before they even aired. That was good.

I posted because I wanted an answer to my question.

Since everyone seems to have mistaken my earnestness for snideness, I'll ask again: was there a debate about the DVD and who will / will not be buying it?

Why should I pay the 13 bones? I recorded all 4 hours on my own DVD recorder.

And once again, someone (me), will not see the point of your question. Can't someone just post that he's buying the DVD set? I've seen a lot of threads begun that are far more useless than this one.

No particular reason for my post. I guess I am just applauding FOX for allowing me to free up an extra four hours on my TiVo. By the way...it was just $8.94+tax at Wally World. Definately cheaper than flash media by the MB but not as cheap as a blank double layer DVD. Or... if you look at it this way...brand new blockbuster movie $19.99 (can be gotten cheaper during week of release) most movies are 2 hrs. (some are 90 min. others 3+hrs), Was available to buy the day after it aired versus the movie has to do its run in the theatre where you have to pay each time you go to it then the dollar theatres then finally the DVD release. I could just keep it on my Tivo for free but between Juggling 24, (the priority) Prison Break, and Idol my hard drive fills up pretty fast this time of year. I just gotta break down and get a fat pipe, networking gear, and the full TiVo service.

This is a discussion forum. People are allowed to start any conversation they want, more or less, and the OP wanted to talk about the 24 DVD. What's so complicated about that?

It was just a little unusual... sort of out of the blue.

Imagine someone walks up to you in your office and starts to argue with you why he's buying the 24 season premiere DVD, when you hadn't been talking to him about 24 or the season premiere. In that instance, I'd imagine your first thought would be something like "Ok. Thanks for sharing. Why are you telling me this?"

Typically, a thread like this would go more like "Is anyone planning on getting the 24 Season Premiere DVD? I was thinking about it for the following reasons..." and invite a response.

Starting a thread arguing why he's buying the DVD is just a little odd, and sort of makes me as well think that there was some argument against buying the DVD that I wasn't aware of. Nothing wrong with it, it's just a little unusual. (Sort of like DianaMo's "Can your TiVo find..." threads... some posters questioned those as well, because they're a slightly odd style of posting.)

shrug.

I freed up my four hours by watching the show.

Did the DVD have any extras?

Is this your office? No. Can you avoid this thread? Absolutely. Bad analogy. And the initial negative response said something to the effect of, "Why we don't care." This seems to be a particularly picky problem here - people sticking their noses in every thread like we who are interested in those particular threads care that they don't care.

Are there forum rules that state how a thread must start? Personally, I think the idea of releasing a DVD the morning after a television show airs is a particularly curious one, and for people in this forum who in a great may cases have hacked TiVo's it's more unlikely that they would buy such a DVD. So I don't think the thread title was particularly misleading, nor do I think it invited the thread Nazis to tell the OP why his thread was improperly posted.

Yeah, the "why we don't care" was a little (a lot) rude, I will agree.

However, I still think the "was there a debate on this topic I was previously unaware of?" was a valid question, if separated from the bad tone the "why we don't care" set. As I mentioned, when I saw this thread, I initially asked (to myself) the same question, mostly because it's a little odd to start arguing on behalf of something that no one was arguing against, or even discussing in the first place.

You may call in an argument I just read it as a reason. I don't see anything argumentative in his post.

"...argue..."?? Where the heck did you get that the OP is "arguing"? This thread's become ridiculous....

I didn't post to start an argument. And don't understand why My post seems to have started one. I thought someone might say "My TiVo isn't upgraded either, I think I'll save some hard drive space by buying it as well because I'm a big fan of 24 also.

I just posted it the way I might start a friendly conversation about anything. Kind of a conversation starter. Conversation doesn't always have to be earth shaking. I was entertained by the season premier of American Idol. See... not earth shaking but an opening to engage in conversation. Just like I'm not going to try to convince the people who have stated they are going to rent it instead of buying it.

Had I wanted to start an argument I would have said something to the effect that "Muslims are the biggest problem with the world today and I am buying the DVD because I enjoy watching Jack Bauer kill them." I however am a nice guy and don't believe that statement anyway so I wouldn't begin a conversation that way.

Still curious, was there anything interesting on the DVD other than the first four episodes of 24?

I didn't even know it was avaiable on DVD. Is it available as a rental too? Because I will be caught up with the series in a few weeks (i'm on season 4 right now) and it would be nice to see it on DVD.

I bought it just so I could delete episodes 1-4 off my TiVo the only special feature on it is the first 12 minutes of episode 5. At $8.94 it was worth it to me. The 12 minutes Were cool and basically show us what we knew all along that Jack can always pick himself up after a gut punch and never really wanted to quit anyway. It just took him a second to realize it.

I just realized something... Doesen't Jack deserve 2 years of back pay. Technically he never punched out and spent the time protecting the US with his silence even through torture.

My wife and I looked at each other like "why would you buy the DVD when you're watching the show" when we saw the commercial. I guess now we know at least one reason. Thanks for clearing that up herfmonster.
