I Watched The Firefly Series Over a 2 Day Period...Loved It! - Some Spoilers

As others have said, I was a bit lost watching the two-hour pilot...

But I marched on and it was well worth it...

I am traveling overseas and was able to watch much of the series on the plane...

Now I am p*ssed off because I don't know what the future stories are of these characters!!! Who exactly is Shephard? The whole thing over his ID card and the comment that the bounty hunter uttered during his ship invasion?

What happens with Mal and the companion?

One thing still keeping me going...I haven't seen Serenity yet!

Serenity does answer some questions (but not all).

I understand that the comic book series that was done prior to Serenity fills in the time gap between the end of the series and the movie pretty well.

I too just watched Firefly in a couple of days. I LOVED it, and feel so bad that I waited so long to see it. However, I have seen Serenity. Now, I can't wait to go back and re-watch it from the new perspective of seeing the show. I also have to say that "Out of Gas" was my favorite episode - I really enjoyed it.

<--- Dreaming of an HD-DVD release where the audio is not horrible (yes I realize Fox does not do HD-DVDs.)

Thanks. After posting this I got the confirmation from one of my Sci-Fi geek friends as well. He also stated that Farscape was better which I gave up on after half of a season because I wasn't thrilled with it.

It has been on Universal HD, and seeing it in HD was great. For those of you that have watched it on Universal HD, am I through all the episodes? They just started reruns, so I figured that was all the episodes.

I never got into Farscape but Firefly had me from start to finish.

It's too bad ppl are realizing now how good Firefly was, might have made a few seasons.

From what I understand, Whedon hasn't made enough on Serenity to be able to make a sequel I think he was hoping to at least break even...

And contrary to MPAA's thinking, it was good enough to "aquire" a copy in SVCD format, then buy the DVD when it came out as well (Firefly & Serenity)

I was into both Farscape and Firefly. Farscape took it's time to get someplace good... I'd estimate it was the middle to end of the first season before it was up to the "huh, this is getting interesting" stage... and right at the midpoint of season 2 before it reached the "wow, this is amazingly good" stage.

Of course, Firefly was "huh, this is getting interesting" right off the bat, and 6 epsiodes in before it hit "wow, this is amazingly good."

The advantage that Farscape has, of course, is that it actually had almost a full run, so it had time to go in some really good directions... and even had time to have a little fun along the way. We got hints of the fun that Firefly would've had with episodes like "Our Mrs. Reynolds" and "Trash," but they ran out of time before they could do more like that.

The other difference is that Firefly really is an ensemble show... it's amazing how fantastically genius Joss was when he was coming up with the characters, and how each balances the others out. It's like a jigsaw puzzle, really. With Farscape, it really is the story of two of the characters... there's development with the rest, of course, and they're interesting, but they're really not the story of the series.

I was the same way with Farscape. Then 2 1/2 years into the series Sci-Fi did a marathon. I got hooked. It really made me a believer. I thought the puppet stuff at first was crap. Now I can't believe how real they are to me.
I would suggest taking a second look. The DVDs have come way down in price. At least half what they use to be.

Interesting, I liked farscape from the start. I haven't given up on Serenity 2, Joss is busy with wonder women right now and I think Universal will green light a sequel after he is done with that.

I was looking for an old thread rather than starting a new one.

I've tried to watch Firefly several times and always lost interest quickly - which I never understood given the fact that I am a huge Buffy fan...

Mostly because of all the continuing comments on here about how great the show was - a couple of months ago, I noticed that UHD was airing Firefly from the beginning.

So - I racked up all the episodes and started watching last night - and man - thanks you guys - I am hooked this time. I was enjoying it, but by the time I got half way through "Our Mrs. Reynolds" I started thinking wow this is really quite brilliant.

I'm half way through and intend to spend the entire day watching the rest of it

Jaynestown was a fantastically funny episode...

I sold my SD DVD box set to the second hand DVD store last month for $10 in anticipation for the BD set coming out...

I only bought it for $19.99 originally, so I got half my money back...

That's exactly the same moment when I switched from "I'm enjoying this, still not totally sure" to "this is the best thing on right now". (It was during "Out of Gas" that I got to "this is the best thing on TV ever", narrowly edging out Babylon 5.)

Out of Gas was brilliant storytelling - but for me, "Trash" was the episode that I loved the most.

I loved Farscape from day one. I never watched Firefly when it ran the first time, but a week before Serenity the sci fi channel had a marathon. I caught a few minutes while cleaning and stopped cleaning and watched it for 5 hours straight. I was hooked.
