Transfer lifetime from Series1 to Series2?

I got my Dad a Series 1 (Sony) back in 2001 and purchased lifetime with it.

I know we could transfer the lifetime to a Series 3 for $199, but he doesn't have HD TV's or HD cable.....so it would be pointless.

He basically wants dual tuners...any way to transfer the lifetime from his Series 1 to a Series 2....or get lifetime on a Series 2?

If not, then what would the monthly be for adding a Series 2? Would it be the $6.95 because it is the 2nd TiVo or $12.95 because it is the only one that we'd be paying a monthly fee for?

No ! not at this time.

E-Bay has TiVos with lifetime on them and some you can purchase Lifetime for, directly with TiVo at $299.

eBay also has some TiVo Lifetime gift cards but they are very expensive, about $700.

S3 might be the best option.

If lifetime was bought before January 20, 2000, there's the one-time grandfathered lifetime transfer that can be used... you might double-check that date you mentioned just in case.

If he committed to 3 years of service he'd get the $6.95/month rate on additional units on his account as long as he buys the Series 2 DT at retail (and can get a rebate). If you buy it from TiVo.com, there's no multi-unit discount option until after the initial term of the contract.

If he bought it at Costco, he could probably return the S1 there and buy an S2DT there then call TiVo and say Costco swapped it out.

The monthly would be $6.95 as the second Tivo on the account.
