He basically wants dual tuners...any way to transfer the lifetime from his Series 1 to a Series 2....or get lifetime on a Series 2?
If not, then what would the monthly be for adding a Series 2? Would it be the $6.95 because it is the 2nd TiVo or $12.95 because it is the only one that we'd be paying a monthly fee for?

If lifetime was bought before January 20, 2000, there's the one-time grandfathered lifetime transfer that can be used... you might double-check that date you mentioned just in case.
If he committed to 3 years of service he'd get the $6.95/month rate on additional units on his account as long as he buys the Series 2 DT at retail (and can get a rebate). If you buy it from TiVo.com, there's no multi-unit discount option until after the initial term of the contract.
If he bought it at Costco, he could probably return the S1 there and buy an S2DT there then call TiVo and say Costco swapped it out.
