Arrow Dead Tivo - Probably no way to revive it????

Got home yesterday and notice that my Phillip DirecTivo just seats there with no light or anything on the screen. Did the usual and power cycle it. Still no lights or anything, but I can hear the fan running.

Oh, maybe the hard drive is corrupted or dying. Removed that and place in pc and it's looks fine. Then, tried powering it on again with drive in place, case open, again no light, sound or anything beside the fan. So it looks like it's got power, but that's it. Not even any spin up sound from the drive.

Am I toasted?

Just because the fan is working doesn't mean the power supply is okay. Just that the section for the fan is okay. If you are comfortable inside the box, check the voltages with a voltmeter.

Guess I'll find a meter and measure it. Where should I measure??

On the other hand, if it turns out to be power, I am guess it's probably cheaper to just buy another one off craig or ebay, than buying a new power supply.

I don't know what a PS might cost. Weaknees might have them or PTVUpgrades.

The fan should run off of the +12 Volts. The Hard Drive runs off of both +12 Volts and +5 Volts. If you want to check at least the power to the hard drive, the yellow wire should read about 12 volts and the red wire should read about 5 volts. Use either black wire for the negative side of the meter.

I don't have the specs on the power supply connector running to the motherboard.

Finally got a multimeter, so will give it a test tonight. I am pretty sure it's the power supply as I was also told that there was a surge from another appliance that cause the circuit to trip. Check weakness and they want 49 bucks for a replacement.

Did a quick search on power supply and came across this post. Sounds exactly like my problem. I also have a Phillips unit.

Picked up another used tivo last night and replace the power supply and got the unit up and running. Everything looks good.

But now I got a new problem. I am not seeing anything from either tuner, sat is checking in fine. Now I am wondering if the tuner is also dead when the power supply went out.
