Cable Card Slot 2

I have BrightHouse cable in Carmel, Indiana. I have been trying to get my new Series 3 running. Of course, I am having cablecard problems (Scientific Atlanta cards). The first day, the tech couldn't get either slot to work, the card was authorized, but no encrypted channels. The next day, had them come back. The tech got slot 1 to work, but can't get slot 2 to work. He says that it's tivo's fault. What can I tell the tech to do differently to get it to work? He says that the first one worked when he wiped my account out and rebuilt it, whatever that means. Also, if a Cablecard is working in slot 1, can you remove it temporarily while trying to get slot 2 to work, then reinsert it back in slot 1 without having to go through the entire fiasco of the original installation? Would that even help getting slot 2 going? I ask this because the tech thinks the "hits" being sent are re-hitting the card in slot 1. I don't know if that is true or not. I love this Tivo, but with only one slot functional, it loses a lot of functionality. Any thoughts are appreciated.

Yes, you can do this, but I don't think it will help.

Well, if it's re-hitting the card in slot 1, then they're sending the wrong hit out. The hits should be addressed to each card. From the Cable companies perspective, the S3 should be like two TVs with cablecards. Each slot behaves independently as far as activation/authorization. If they can get one card working, then the physical data path from the headend to the cards is working (i.e the headend should be able to send messages to both cards). So, it's up to the cable company to figure out why they can't seem to get the right message to the 2nd card.
