Tivo Suggestions - Padding?

I just got my new S3 Tivo and for the most part, I've very happy with it.

Haven't gotten to the Cable Card installs yet, but I'm currently watching my unencrypted QAM channels with it and all's good.

After just one day, my Tivo has recorded 12 "Suggestions" for me to watch, but I noticed that - very annoyingly - the first minute of each show (or the last couple minutes) are cut off in every recording, basically rendering them useless.

Couldn't find anything about this online, but is there a way to set automatic padding with Tivo Suggestions recordings?

It seems weird that you can set padding for scheduled recordings and Season Pass recordings...but I can't find anything in any of the menus to set Tivo Suggestions recordings.

Thanks for your help!

Are the Suggestions being recorded right before/after a show that you've recorded (and padded)? If so, there's your culprit.

Not all of the suggestions are like that though....

Even so, is there anyway to program padding to the suggestions recordings?

Clock issue? TIVO resets the clock every time it connects for an update. Are you doing daily updates? The time will float a little bit without the daily correction.

Maybe it's the actual shows which are off schedule a bit. If there is a particular suggestion which is cut off, try actually recording it via the todo list the next time it airs.

worachj - that might be the culprit...I mean, I guess I can just try resetting the clock by rebooting the machine.

ScottUrman - Yeah, that's a solution, but it defeats the whole purpose of having TiVo record "suggestions" for me when I have to go out of my way to set recordings for myself about things I don't even know I want to watch yet...

So I'm assuming this isn't a widespread problem if I'm the only one (it seems) who's experiencing it?

And I'm also assuming that there is no way to pad suggestions recordings since no one's mentioned it?

Thanks for your help everyone!

I (unfortunately) can't help you with your padding problem, but want to comment on your problem with shows being cut off. I have found many, many shows do not start/stop on the clock as they should, esp cable series. To save myself the grief of ranting every time a ship gets clipped, I pad everything. 100%. I add one minute early, and 1 minute after, to every SP, and to every manual recording. I also pad every movie, 1 early, 5 late.

With the S2, I had to be careful I didn't clip shows by padding. But with the S3 and dual tuners, no problem. About the only exception is back-to-back shows on the same channel (Heroes>Studio 60). I pad Heroes 1 min early, and S60 1 min late.

It's easy to do, costs nothing, and my blood pressure has dropped 20 points since I started padding . Now if we could convince TPTB to add a setting to auto-soft-pad, I'd be a happy guy

Rebooting won't help. Go into the Network Settings menu and force a call to TiVo. That will update the clock and get any updates that are required (both guide and TiVo software).
