TiVo Remote

I wondering if anyone has an idea of the lifespan of a TiVo remote. Mine has been acting kinda funny, like having to press a button twice to get it to work.

Fresh batteries seemed to help somewhat but I think it may be time for a new remote. Those Glo remotes look pretty cool.

I cannot comment on the Glo remote, but...

I have this remote (I got it for something like $4 plus S&H off of eBay):
http://www.ofausa.com/remote.php?type=URC%206131

It's a six function universal remote. It has "Tivoness" built in (although I futzed with some of the key controls after setting it up). And, perhaps the best part....

If you can't find a code that actually works everything on your TV, DVD player, stereo, or whatever, but find a code that controls some of it... You can email oneforall and they'll send you codes for every function for that... code. So if programming code 1234 controls some, but not all, of your TV controls, you can get individual key codes from them and program the power button to be the power button.

This is the first universal remote I've found that actually controls *all* of my TV/stereo stuff. The wife is happy that I no longer need four remotes, just because the universal remote only "sorta" works.

Thats' a great idea but I'm a creature of habit I guess. I like the simplicity of the TiVo remote.

The TiVo remote operates the all the functions of my tv except one and I wish I knew how to program it into the remote. The sleep timer. If I could get that work on the TiVo remote I would have no need for the tv remote.

Anyone know how I can get the TiVo remote to operate the sleep timer function of the tv?

Not really ... they're learning remotes in that you can program them from your existing TV's remote if there's not a code for them. But you can only learn the basic functions like ChUp, ChDn, volume, etc.

You can't map buttons to other functions, so you can't for instance, use any TiVo remote to access your TV's menu and then use the arrows to move around in those menus. Thus, you won't be able to program the sleep/timer function.

If you want to do that, your best bet is a universal/programmable remote.
