How much space left (another noob question)

I am sure that this has been answered elsewhere, but I couldn't find it. Please direct me if you can...

I just got a 180 hr DT TiVo. Once I build up a list of recorded shows, how can I find out how much storage space is left on my TiVo?

Thank you.

Start watching and deleting your shows. Pay attention to the recently deleted folder. When your tivo gets full, and you don't manually delete shows, you can use your recently deleted folder as a 'free space indicator'.

For example, you record only shows with 1 hour durations. Let's say you have 100 shows (each 1 hour) of recorded material in the Now Playing List. Next, let's say you have 80 shows (each 1 hour) of recorded material in the Recently Deleted Folder. Now, as your Tivo records new shows, you'll notice the number in the Recently Deleted Folder will drop to 79, then 78, etc.

If you NEVER manually delete the shows in the Recently Deleted Folder, this method should work.

the answer with almost every tivo within a month or two is that there is no "free" space on the tivo.

I have 4 tivos and none have any free space. every new recording must delete a suggestion to record.

I think suggestions make a better indicator of space you don't mind replacing than the recently deleted folder. the recent deletes don't stay in my folder very long.

TiVo hasn't seen fit to provide an easy way to see how much free space you have.
If you have Suggestions turned on, use those as a rough guide. If you don't, use your Recently Deleted folder as a rough guide.

If you want something more exact you'll have to explore the options that use your computer in conjunction with your TiVo like the one pointed out in post #2.

Lame solutions to a very simple problem, but they're the only ones available without pretty significant hacking.

It seems this would be a simple, useful feature to add in an upgrade. Instead we get junk like skidzone.

I turned off Suggestions and use the Recently Deleted folder as a rough guide. It's not ideal but it works okay for going out of town for a few days.

Newer DVR's have this feature. Tivo turned their back on it ages ago and no matter how many want it or how easy it is, they seem sure that you don't really need it or want it as much as ads and other things.

Truthfully, I have one and could care less for the FSI, but YMMV.
