My HR10-250 got crazy... insert valid access card bug

My HR10-250 got crazy...

A couple of hours after the 6.3b update, it began acting weird... it was claiming that the access card was not (and it was...), then after hours of trying with support over the phone, they gave up....

It is strange, because now if you go into the system information screen it toggles between no access card - account closed and the right card number and account in good standing... Of course while it is doing that you can't watch because it freezes every 4 seconds (and it is worse if you have OTA in at least one tuner)

Now, if you manage to start a recording, and you watch the recorded program later, it is ok (not if you rewind the live buffer, only watching the recorded show...)

Anyway, as the error happened after the update, the CSR told me that it was their fault, so they will replace the receiver with no cost (even though it is owned and out of warranty)...

Of course she had no idea if they will send me an HR10 or the new HR20...

I had the same problem with 6.3a. I removed the card and reinserted it and the problem would go away for awhile. Since I've gone back to 3.1.5f i 've had no problems with my DVR so i assume the problem is a software bug.

You seem to be having a lot of different problems all at once. I had the access card thing happen to me one time when I first installed 6.3 (the first iteration). All I had to do was remove and reinsert the card for it to go away.

Freezing ever 4 seconds happens when you're in the menu system, not just during recordings? Not sure what you mean by have OTA in at least one tuner, if you have one input the box splits it to two tuners internally - so you have 0 or 2.

The only time I have mad my SI show "account closed" is when the box could not complete the satellite acquisition on boot - which has happened a few times since moving to 6.3x. A reboot usually clears it up for me, but may be related to my multiswitch.

I recently started having access card problems with one of my HR10-250's. This unit is hacked and had not been allowed to upgrade to 6.3 yet. I called DirecTV support and it was determined after some diagnosis (rebooting, removing/inserting the card, and trying a different card, all with the same end result) that the card reader had died. It started about 10 days ago where it would switch between thinking the card was there then wasn't there and after several days decided the card was never there.

Since my HR10-250 was still under warranty, DirecTV sent me a replacement (refurbished) HR10-250 overnight, which arrived last Tuesday. I swapped my hacked drives from the old unit into the new unit, called DTV to activate the new unit, ran 51killer.tcl, and have been fine since.

The original poster's problem sounds like the early stages of what I just went through, so I would suggest calling DTV and pushing for a replacement unit. Hopefully, you're still under warranty like I was. If you aren't still under warranty, you still may be able to get a good deal on a replacement, though you may be forced to switch to the HR20.

Good luck.
