Direct TV and Series 3
I've looked through various threads and not found any reference
Is the new series 3 HD Tivo capable of recording 2 channels on Directv?
I've had to settle with only 1 recording on my current series 2 since I had to switch to Directv and am willing to upgrade to the series 3 if it means I can record 2 shows at a time again.

You've seen no reference because the series 3 does not work with sattalites or external cable boxes.

The Series 3, doesn't work with satellite at all, and all TiVo powered Standalone DVRs that work with satellite, will only operate one sreceiver. To DVR more than one satellite channel, you need the providers DVR.

Hmmm.....You must have looked real hard. Did you try the frequently asked questions sticky at the top of this forum?

From the link I posted:
Does the S3 support satellite?
No, the S3 works only with antenna and cable. You can use the S2 or S2DT with external satellite boxes.
You have to read a little further.

Consumer level boxes CANNOT record uncompressed HD signals. The box to do that would be too large and way too expensive.
Since the relationship with DirecTV changed, and Dish provides its own, for now, you will not see a satellite box with the TiVo interface. Sat. companies like using closed proprietary systems where they have control from end-to-end. That's not likely to change. The only reason TiVo could make the Series 3 is the FCC mandate that created Cable Cards.

It may not be much consolation, but DTV has partnered up with WinTel so you can watch it on a Viiv/Media Center PC box in the near future.
Of course, they'll be an even bigger wallet hit than the Series 3 is.

That support is already rolling out to Hr20's now. I think the assumption is that you will use your existing home PC, not buy a PC to do it. Not sure how many PC's support Viiv today though. It might have to wait for your next PC upgrade for most of us.

Yet, but he's talking series 4, we can certainly hope technology progresses beyond where it is today.
