Your wife wants a bigger Hard Drive,

Stuttering during playback sometimes is the first indication that the hard drive is going bad. Being stuck on the welcome message indicates it has failed. The Underground->Upgrade section has a lot of information on Checking, Replacing or upgrading your TiVo drive with a new larger drive.

With every technological leap, we all lose.

We went from 8" to 5.25" to 3.5" drives, albeit they were a little floppy inside. Of cours enow they're replaced with mostly little thumb drives.

But even those lucky enough to have had hard ones back in the day still can't help but have growing (pun intended) disappointment. The first commercial hard disk measured a whopping 24". But nowadays 3.5" is the norm and kids these days probably will grow up around 2.5" or even just 1" hard disks.

It's a shame, really. Large hard disks were a lot more fun, but today it's all about quantity instead of quality.

Well, if you look around the net, you can find lots of dealers offering you those added inches back. With 24", you can even waltz around the floor.

Seriously speaking, your wife should want more sex when TiVo is working. Since you can timeshift your programming to whenever you want, you should have more time available all the time thanks to TiVo.

Now there's a marketing idea......."...have more time to have sex since you can watch you programs whenever you want...."

Yeah, I've even seen advertisements for those added inches in my Inbox. Shouldn't be a problem to find someone who offers that...

Is the 80 Gig compatible with a 40G? I found someone who will sell me the 80 but mine is a 40.

You could use almost any EIDE (PATA) Hard drive 40G or larger. If your original drive is too far gone you will need to get an image there are threads about getting an image over in the upgrade section or purchase "Instant Cake" ($20) from PTV Upgrades for your TiVo. both require setting up the drive with a PC.

Would you settled down with game Joystick? It's pretty hard and thick..

The SA Series-2 80hr TiVo would have an 80G drive. However you want to go bigger not all 80G hard drives are the same actual size a drive that is only 1 byte smaller then the original will not work. You can upgrade from the original 80G to larger drives. Again the Upgrade section has a lot of information on replacing hard drives.

I had great luck with a seller on e-bay who sells drives ready to be installed. I just didn't want to deal with taking my PC apart to image a new Tivo and I was a little leary about doing it properly also. It was a time saver as well, which left time for "other stuff", but it sounds like the OP doesn't really need a time savings or want any free time for other fun activities.

I think mine was a 250GB drive for just over $100, even included the torx wrench.
