S3 and HDMI passthrough switching

I've been using a 5 to 1 HDMI switching device from monoprice that works great. Tivo remote "input" button toggles through the devices like a charm. HDTivo, DVD, HD Camcorder and an Xbox360.
I just bought an audio setup that includes a Klipsch Synergy Series Quintet III Microsystem, the the Synergy Series Sub-10 and a Sony STR-DG800 receiver.
I've searched though old threads before I ask for help but haven't seen anyone with my configuration/issues.
I knew going in that this Sony receiver used "HDMI passthrough switching" and was hoping I could make this work. It has two HDMI in and one HDMI out. I thought I would be able to put my 4 HDMI components into the monoprice switcher then go out of that and into the STR-DG800 and out of that and into my TV. Then the only switching I need to do would be on the monoprice switcher using the input button on the Tivo just like I had been doing.
It does indeed switch the video but does not switch the audio. I ran an optical cable and that solves the problem but then everytime I switch to another device I'll have to also change the receiver.
My setup seems fairly common. There must be someone out there that has come up with a clever solution? Or any other brilliant minds out there care to chime in?
Thanks!

This may not be a solution you want to pursue, but I have a similar setup in that changing from one source to another requires changing the HDTV input AND the audio input on my surround-sound processor. I bought a programmable remote (the Universal Remote MX-850, but there are many others that do the same thing) that carries out macros. Pressing a button on the remote labeled TIVO sends a signal to the HDTV to switch to the proper input, and then virtually simultaneously sends a signal to the receiver to switch to the "AUX" input. Even my technophobe wife can operate the system easily.

In your case, rather than switching between HDTV inputs, you would switch between inputs on your HDMI switcher.

Yes I had considered getting a Harmony remote or something like that and programming the switches. I love the Tivo remote though. Looks great, feels great in your hand.
The other wierd thing I noticed was I don't hear the Tivo sound effects when I'm watching something. Like the 8 sec rewind sound or the sound when I forward through with the incremental clicks. If I'm navigating around in the menu without video on the screen I hear the sounds just fine.
If I buy a receiver that has true HDMI switching and not just "pass through" my problem might be solved. Does anyone out there have a true HDMI Switching receiver that pass both video and audio?
