I saw that earlier today so i decidd to have a look around the net to see if I could find any virgin 750 gig DB35's for sale cheaper. The nly place I found that is seling them is CDW but their price is higher than the prepped drives from weakness. Anyone else see the DB35's for sale anywhere else?

Cheapest price I could find: https://usm.channelonline.com/rtech/...?id=M003365145

However, I've never used that company and cannot comment on their reliability in any form.

ComputerHQ also has it and is someone I've at least heard of: http://www.computerhq.com/Seagate_HD...id-819555.html They have pretty good reviews on Pricegrabber, so I'd trust them more.

Weaknees still seems to have the cheapest price on a raw drive.

I'll hold off for now until they get out there more. The standard Seagate drive can be had for $345 right now, so it's a $125 price bump for an untested volume reduction.

Anyone have a decibel meter to test the difference in noise?

I have two sound meters, but no standard Seagate 750GB drive to test against the DB35 coming tomorrow. I will try to test the db level of the stock drive against the DB35 before I install the latter.

Its difficult to measure the difference with a dB meter. The problem is clicks, on average it may be quite quiet, but you notice when the click happen. The difference between the normal 750 and the quietened one is quite amazing.

I just upgraded my S3 to a Seagate 500G with the quiet code change. Cant hear it at all. The Bumwine method worked great. Could hardly hear either drive as it copied from one to the other. Had to watch the disk light on the computer to be sure it was even working.

For $200 premium I think I will stick with the regular one I ordered.

For 500GB, WD5000YS should be an excellent candidate. $150-$180.
