Adelphia -> Comcast transition is close for me...

Hey all,

Comcast is finally taking over Adelphia in my part of the country (Ga). Just wondering if any other S3 owners have had the transition (they're supposed to add ~95 more channels "overnight") and if they had any issues with channels bugging out. The flyer they sent mentioned they're doing a "100% digital" conversion, so I'm hoping we don't lose anything in the mix.

If others in the Atl area that are already with Comcast (Comcast from day 1 with your S3) and have the full channel platter, I'd like to hear about any issues and what you've dealt with/fixed.

All this happens Oct 31.. yet another reason for me to be scared on Halloween! I have a feeling at a MINIMUM, TiVo won't have updated guide data (new channels and the 100% revamped channel mapping) for a bit.

Gahh ... my Adelphia has all but vanished. Last night the online billing was shut off, and the Comcast billing site isn't up yet! My Zip code now shows up on neither site

New channels have ben verbally promised but
a. No flyers yet
b. I don't own an S3. Yet.

My Adelphia (Abington, MA) is due to switch to Comcast next week. I was bummed out to see that the HD line-up was better with Adelphia than what Comcast offers.

A quick call to an Adelphia CSR revealed that even when Comcast takes over, I will keep the same line-up. So why am I leery that it will change anyways? Anyone have first hand experiences?

Thanks,

Thos.

Specifically, what are they changing? I hope they don't turn off HDNet/HDNMV! Although I'm looking forward to finally getting DiscoveryHD, UniversalHD, ESPN2HD, ComcastHD (I think) ... all of which my local Adelphia franchise was too broke to add.

Some folks have been calling Comcast to ensure HDNet isn't turned off, or at least petition for it ... I think I'll call again too. For some reason, Comcast hates Mark Cuban's guts, 'twould seem! I just want the channel ... maybe the CEOs can go 3 rounds at celebrity boxing or something (in HiDef of course) and decide who pays how much

I didn't see HDMovies or HDNet listed on their line-up. Hence my concern. Plus they said they would play "select Red Sox and Celtics" games. With Adelphia, all the Sox games were on NESN and Celtics on FOX Sports NE.

We'll see I guess....

Actually, our HD lineup gets better. They're adding Cinemax, ESPN, ESPN2, MTV HD, TNT and TBS (it's a local for us here) and a couple others I can't remember off the top of my head. Current HD has abc, nbc, cbs, fox, pbs and discovery (and any premiums you have in your package).

Comcast has UniversalHD in VA? Not in GA, unfortunately. I wish they would add it.

Just an update. The change happened overnight 10/30. The S3 didn't like it at all. I had to pop the cablecards and redo the guided setup. It was a little strange, because I could tune into the premiums and HD's ok, but channels 1-99 were all gray "no signals" for me.

The guide is all messed up (on my S2's and the S3). I have no idea when they'll get that up and going.

I had to deal with the Time Warner/Comcast merger and the switch they did last Tuesday. They added a couple of HD channels and moved everything (EVERYTHING) else around. I called TiVo the week before to see if they had the updated guide and was told they did. Well, they didn't.

So for the past week I have had incorrectly mapped channels. I sent them the updated channel list last week and they were able to send that to Tribune, but still no updated listings. Called tonight and they gave me a Zip code with similar listings to hold me over until they can get this fixed. Brilliant. TiVo's customer "service" never ceases to dismay me.

I am in PA and the Adelphia to Comcast switch is going on now. It actually started yesterday. I got a letter in the mail on Monday saying nothing would change until Nov 6th. Guess what, channels are moved and the guide is all out of whack.

I stopped into my local office and they had no idea anything had changed yet but they had a new channel list sitting right there. It was photocopied.

On the channel list I do not see NFL HD anymore. I am pissed as I watch that channel a lot. No UHD either. No Fox HD either. And the programming packages have changed a bit. I gained a few channels that I don't care about.

I hope TiVo gets the guide data fixed soon.

Should I re-run guided setup and choose Comcast instead of Adelphia for the cable provider?

When Comcast takes over Adelphia, I noticed my monthly bill increased 8 dollars a month. What about you?

I was told that my bill will not change. I just signed up with Adelphia/Comcast two weeks ago. I came over from DirecTV.

I was told I will be grandfathered in. Unless I change my programming package, my bill will not change.

I was told after February if I make any changes I will be converted to the Comcast pricing.

A week ago Wednesday ( Oct 25th), when Comcast takes over Adephia, my NBC station shows black screen all day and I called and complained, they said they are switching all wires from Antenna towers to satilite. I missed the show " Biggest Loser" and the one that Ken was elimated. I was upset!

I had my S3 CableCard setup completed by a super-competent, patient and nice Adelphia higher-level tech today, after a boched install by an Adel/Comcast Independent contractor yesterday. Hopefully my level of service doesn't drop with the merger/acquisition

I note that my channel lineup only shows Comcast now, including in Guided Setup, and my billing website is officiall down (with a link to a not-yet-active Comcast site)

I was trying to beat the transition, but apparently I *just* missed out. Suffice to say if they got it right on visit #2 DURING the transition, most people should be fine installing before, during or after!

My advice - Don't hold off based on this merger alone.

In guided setup, did you use Adephia or Comcast?

No choice ... only Comcast lineups showed up! Adelphia no longer exists here, according to Tribune

Even though the installation was performed by a figment of my imagination who wore an Adelphia shirt and drove an Adelphia truck

I'm also in the Abington, Mass market with Adelphia /Comcast. I was thinking the same thing....waiting until after the transition is complete. But have finally given in and my S3 shipped today.

When I called Adelphia to set up an install I was told by the CSR that "we don't support Tivo, we have our own DVR" I explained to her that I wasn't asking them to "support" my Tivo, that I simply wanted them to give me two cc's for the unit. I was transferred to a "technician" who seemed to have about the intelligence of a small peice off tree bark who informed me that "this is a very unusual request but since it is your Tivo" they will send out a tech in two weeks. I am needless to say very apprehensive about the coming appointment. I'm going to swing through my local Adelphia/Comcast office tomorrow and see what the woman there can tell me. I always seem to have better luck doing this kind of thing in person with this company.

I'll update as to what I find out tomorrow...as well as the final outcome of the appointment.

TWO WEEKS?

Wow, I bought my S3 Friday, requested an appointment Friday evening 7:45pm, and was offered Monday morning, but qanted Tuesday morning instead. Trouble call (and eventual success) on Wednesday at noon.

Like I said, my local Adelphia rocks (and always has) ... I have a feeling even the hankering for 30MBPS won't make me switch to FIOS, if the same Adelphia staffers continue to service the area after the Comcast acquisition is 'complete' Or maybe that's just my giddiness post S3-nirvana talking

So far... it looks like the transition went well for the Series 3. The guide isn't quite perfect yet - not sure how long that is going to last.

I can get the HD channels that I need... so that is what matters most.

I'm out of town this week. If this Adelphia/Comcast hardware switchover happened in southside/SW Virginia, its sounds like all of my recordings are screwed!

Okay...here's what I found out by walking into the local adelcast office today.

The call center that gave me such wonderful customer service on Tuesday is a temporary center put in place by Comcast to deal with the fact that their csr's can't view adelphia's computer systems to see the adelphia accounts. That call center will self destruct on 11/12 when the comcast/adelphia computer transition is completed.

The very nice lady at the office checked the system and told me that I'm scheduled for an install with 2 cc's on 11/16, also there is no charge for the truck roll at this point. She said that may change in the future but due to my appt. being scheduled already I will not be charged.

As for the two week time frame, today was the last day for installs from ADelphia, and comcast can't do any local installs until their computer system is put in place, on 11/12. They would have come today, but my S3 won't be here until tomorrow....not gonna work So I will have to wait.

I feel a little better, after talking to her than I did in the first post. Now I just have to play the waiting game to see what happens. I'll update you all when I'm up and running

Over the last year or two, lineup changes have occurred on average every couple of weeks. Unless the guide update MENTIONED the name change from A to C, of course!

I am referring to channels that are changing because of the Comcast buyout of Adelphia. These channels just changed in my area a few days ago. So the guide was not correct. It is now.

One channel was deleted and two were moved to a lower channel number. I don't remember what channels exactly. I know one was the Golf Channel though.
