Football

Is there a way to get a season pass to a specific football teams schedule? I haven't been able to figure it out. The games are listed by the visiting team first which makes it difficult to do a season pass. Am I missing something?

I've tried setting wl's for Dallas Cowboys games, I could never get it to set to where it wouldn't grab a load of extranious crap.

you could do that and just each week go into the wishlist and delete all the extra stuff.

You should set the category to Sports/Sports Event, and the keyword to "Dallas Cowboys" including the quotes.

Another method is to set the keyword search to:
"Dallas Cowboys" at
Then set the category to Sports/Football.

I have a wishlist for "Redskins" and category of sports/football. all I get are the game and the Redskins' Journal" show. Keeps the extraneous Dallas stuff off my TiVo just fine

IMO, this is the best way to do it. I have an auto-record wishlist search set to "New England at" and category set to Sports/Football, and it has never failed to pick up a game, and also never picks up any other shows.

you need the opposite "at New England" as well then to get home games. I have found that with "Redskins" and leaving the at off I get any games and the category sports /football keeps out any other items except for the teams official half hour journal show.

Just use:

"New England" at

No need to have 2 different ones. Also if you put the team name as well, you will get the best results:

"New England Patriots" at

However, the 'at' isn't needed if you just set the category to sports/sports event. For NFL teams that only includes games.

No you don't.

Wishlist: "TEXANS AT" will record all home and away Texans games.

Take the HD channels out of "channels I receive."

I can't see how that would work for home games - that should have been titled "Washington Redskins at Houston Texans", right?

I think they mean without the quotes. But you should put the city + team name around quotes for it to work the best.

The Tivo search algorithm is fairly simple-minded. IIRC, if you give it multiple words, it looks for matches containing all the words in any order. So, in my case, if the George Mason University Patriots ever played Western New England College in football, and it was televised, my wishlist would record it.

I thought that is what the quotes were for - if you give it multiple words without quotes, it will give you anything with those words in any order (and stuff in between); with the quotes it had to be a perfect match.

I'll have to try it out this evening...

Yes, the quotes are important. Otherwise a wishlist for this:
New England

Would result in results that have the words New and England but with quotes it would look for the phrase New England together.

That's what I thought - if that's the case "texans at" wouldn't catch a home game because "texans at" doesn't appear in the description.

I think they were quoting in the post to show what the wishlist is but in the actual wishlist there were no quotes. Still the best way to do that wishlist is as the following:

"Houston Texans"

Including the quotes. Then set the category to Sports/Sports-event.

Don't forget to have it record at least an hour over the program's end time. NFL games never end on their scheduled time, and you'd hate to miss an overtime!
