S2 with 7.3.1 rebooting many times a day

My Series 2 TIVO with 7.3.1 is rebooting several times a day. It started out rebooting once in a while. Then it was rebooting nightly at about the same time every day. Now it's rebooting many times each night.

If you're watching a recorded program when it reboots you see the following behavior:
(1) the show you're watching will freeze for 30ish seconds
(2) it'll unfreeze for a second or two and then... REBOOT!

I'm using a wireless adapter. I have had a drive fail in the past and the behavior was definately different. I tried clearing all program data and to-do list data with no success. I disabled Bonjour in iChat and Trillian Pro.

What's going on? What can I do to fix this?

This is my second TIVO issue in 18 months. I love the interface, but I really don't want a high maintenance device.

Thanks,
Rourke

Try removing the wireless adapter and see if that helps with the rebooting problem. Im fairly new around here but I have seen a lot of this kind of thing (with my own S2 as well) with the S2 and wireless adapters. I just went out and got a wired adapter and am going to see if that changes anything for me.

Good luck

Unfortunately, the only way my TIVO can get program information is via that wireless adapter. Removing it really isn't a viable option.

Thanks,

If you remove it, you can tell if that is what is causing the problem if you get no reboots. Try removing it for a day or two. You can then hook it back up to get the guide data.

I tried forcing a program info download, and that didn't cause a crash.

I can try unplugging the network adapter and see if that helps, but it isn't a solution. It'll just show me where the problem is but won't fix the problem.

Well... if you remove the adapter and it stops, you know that it was the adapter causing the problem. With 7.3.1, several adapters that were unofficially approved, suddenly started causing reboots. To solve this problem, throw away your current adapter (if that is what was causing it) and get the TiVo branded adapter.

My Linksys wireless G adapter wasn't on the 'approved' list, but worked fine for months. Then just before the 7.3 update, I started getting lots of reboots when I was trying to transfer programs to my PC. No transfer, no reboots. It got worse after 7.3 arrived.

I got a wired network adapter instead, and the thing has been rock solid ever since.

Same thing happened to me with a D-Link DWL-G120 B1 that worked fine for a year.

I was actually reading the message that the Kid Zone update had just been done and it started rebooting every two minutes. After reading about all the wireless adapter problems here on the forum I unplugged mine and the TiVo worked fine.

A Tivo branded adapter arrived today from Amazon and seems to have fixed my problems. I've transferred some programs both ways between TiVos (the other one is wired).

I would recommend going wired if that's practical or getting a TiVo branded wireless adapter.
