I have a Hughes Series 2 Tivo. Last month I upgraded the hard drive to 144 hours. It has been working fine. Last night I turned it on and had a black screen. It was recording something at the time (even though there was no picture.) Spoke with Directv and they said to unplug and then plug it back in. When I did that I got the Welcome Powering up screen but it would go no further. I tried that several times. DTV said they would replace my Tivo with a Dtv R15-100 hours for free. This morning I opened it to replace the updated drive with my old one to see if it was a drive problem and there was hardened white gummy stuff all around the area where the power cable is-like something had leaked. The hard drive seems fine.
So these are my questions: #1 Is this machine salvalgable?
#2 Are my saved programs totally lost?
#3 What might have caused this problem?
#4 Can I put the updated hard drive into the new
DTV R15?
