Question Will Analog Cable be obselte for Tivo?

I just read that the government will require all tv signals to be digital by 2009. I was looking at buying the 180 hour Tivo Series 2. Obviously I have analog cable. What will happen in 2009? Will I need to buy a digital cable box from my cable company, and will I not be able to record 2 signals at once with Analog?

Don't worry about it they've been saying that for years.

So my cable will still deliver Analog signal to my tivo without a cable box?

I don't have a cable box, so I am worried that my cable company will make me get one once the rules go in place.

the rule is for all over the air channels be digital, im sure the cable company will still provide analog channels. and why are you so against having a receiver, dont want to pay an extra fee?

2009 is well a long time from now... many cable companies are switching to more digital as they can squeeze more channels in the line up = more money for them.

besides by that time you will most likly have a new HDTV and will want a S3

As indicated in several other responses the 2009 analog to digital conversion is mandatory for OTA only.

When/If your cable company is going more or all digital is up to them. There have been posts where people have been told their cable company is going all digital as soon as 2007.

If your cable company went all digital or scrambled their analog signals the Series 2 DT would work with the cable box as a single tuner DVR. Given the DTs low cost I wouldn't worry much about it, if your cable company changes something a few years down the road you can deal with it then.

Good Luck,
