I liked Eric Bogosian as the new boss and Lionel Luthor as the mentor, but I figured out it was the Goonies Gal as soon I saw the relationshhip with her Dad was effed up.
Concerning the previews for next week:

How come there is no DA now though? I did not hear about any of these changes, so I have to admit I was really off kilter. Although I should have expected it with Sheridan's health issues last season. I did not expect Courtney Vance to be gone.

Yes, that's who it was.
I don't care if it was off-kilter, any time I get to see the Goren/Eames duo, I'm happy. It's one of my favorite shows, and for some reason I'm just NOT enjoying Logan as much.

The way they shot scenes, the camera work, the new characters, the handling of the old characters..... Something just ain't right no mo'. I'll give it a few eps, but I'm feeling like cancelling my season pass right now.

The more I think about it the more I agree. Something was weird. The entire opening sequence felt more like CSI then CI.

I didn't love it either, and I figured out who the murderer was waaaaay more quickly than I usually do. The "clues" they dropped -- like the father hugging Goren before inquiring about his own daughter -- were dead giveaways.

I was really disappointed. There was very litle suspense and I knew the daughter was the killer way too early. The new camera angles/work was really not needed.
ALSO, didn't Eames hae a baby last year??? If so, where was the baby/babysitter when she came home, and there were no signs of a child in her apt. I did miss some of last season's episodes, so maybe itwas explained then...

Eames was a surrogate for her sister. Handy way to have a pregnancy on screen and not have to change the character because of it.

Same here.
I felt like the whole episode was off and I was looking forward to John Glover as Goren's mentor.
I had the daughter pegged the moment the cops found the cell phone on Glover.

In the L&O universe, the formula is pretty simple: 9 times out of 10 if there's a recognizable actor in the episode, they're usually the perp.
In this case, there were two big names, but once you saw that Plimpton was getting so little screen time it was obvious that she'd be the one.

Not only that, but Plimpton is pretty much typecast these days as a crazy person. The moment I saw her, I knew she had to be guilty of SOMETHING insane!

Yeah, but he was too obviously crazy from the moment he appeared to be guilty.

I liked it, but once Veronica Mars starts up, I'll only watch the reruns . . .
CI vs. House and VM loses every time

I like Bogosian, but it's gonna be hard to sustain thie way they have it. He can't just keep hating on Bobby forever (and in fact, he seems to be coming around very quickly), so there's better be more to his character than just a by-the-book guy who won't put up with Goren's quirks.

They're splitting episodes. Each will do half.
Which I really hate. I don't like Logan in this show. I DO love Goren.

anyone notice the OVER use of text messages? Instead of them all calling each other they all seemed to get tons of text messages. It was very overt and outstanding. I guess they wanted us to key in on cell phones this ep?
If it continues, i'll be disappointed. I dont know why but it just ticked me the wrong way for some reason. Were they perchance advertising a specific phone?

I've been watching a lot of CI reruns, and frankly, the text message thing is something they've done for a while.

Well, Goren's be using a Nextel for the last couple of seasons and I believe that Sprint/Nextel does pay some for the product placement.

I thought his character was a real jerk to Goren and Eames, and he lets his ambition cloud his judgment. He was more interested in preventing Declan from tainting his rise through the ranks than he was in catching the killer.

On the other hand, he seemed to be developing a grudging respect for Goren after his methods ended up working. Closing cases is good for his career, so I suspect as time goes by and he realizes how inhumanly good Goren is, he'll mind his eccentricities less and less.

I think the use of texting in such situations is fairly common. You don't know what the investigator in the field is in the middle of when you send a message. By sending a text, they can glance quickly and respond if available. If you call and they just let it go to voicemail, they don't know the subject of the message until they check voicemail.

It bugs me when shows of this ilk don't use texting like real life. It creates overly contrived situations that could be solved in a moment in today's world, and is a sign of lazy writing, IMO.
I loooooove Goran, and I like Logan, but I liked Logan't previous partner, so I'm not too excited for that change.
I also really liked Goran's relationship with Jamey Sheridan's character, but I can see how they would want to go somewhere different. Goran had tons of leeway with the familiar boss that he wouldn't get with a new ambitious boss, so that could create a lot of realistic dramatic tension. I'm sad to see Jamey Sheridan go, but I like Eric Begosian (if not his character so far), so I'm willing to give him a chance.
I've had to respect the casting decisions that Dick Wolf has made over the past however many years of the L&O franchise. Except for some missteps on the ADA position in the original show, he's done a stellar job, so I'm withholding judgement on Logan's new partner.
As for the rest of this episode, the mystery had fairly obvious plot points, but I liked the fact that Eames got herself out of there, and the rest of it was to give some background on Goran and to set up the new boss' reservations. Understandable. I'm waiting to see how he reacts to Logan and his tarnished rep.

In my world there is no text messaging nor any need for it...wonder if that means i'm not in the real world?
