Ordered new TiVo - Gemini?!?!
I just ordered a second TiVo from this special... http://www.tivo.com/0.11.baseball.asp ...(even though it says expired on 8/31 it does still work). The email confirmation showed this... "TiVo Gemini DVR 80hour (TCD649080)" ...what the heck is "Gemini"? Not a bad deal $30 box fee then 12.95 for a year. Then I can MSD.

No idea! Must be some sort of code name for the dual tuner TiVo, as the model number you posted is for an 80 hour S2DT.

Gemini - the twins -
looks like the standard 80 hour DT you would get off the shelf at Best Buy though, enjoy

Well, I guess the dual tuner/Genimi thing is it. I just don't remember seeing that when I ordered my first one (same model) in July. I thought maybe it had something to do with Kidzone as Kidzone's got something to do with the monthly service discount ($12.95-Reg $19.95). I have no use for Kidzone an hope it doesn't come activated.

I jumped on the same deal tonight after seeing the URL in the forums here. I did note this in the offer's Terms & Conditions:

TiVo DVRs come pre-activated and your subscription begins immediately.
|
Not sure exactly what that means. Don't I still have to add/activate it in the online account management? (I've had a Series2 for 3-1/2 years now.)

If KidZone comes activated on these boxes, I'm pretty sure it can be deactivated. Guess we'll find out.

As long as you bought it using the same email address as you use for Manage Account, it will show up there automatically. When you bought the TiVo you paid for the first month already so it will be activated when you get it.

Interesting... I haven't bought a box since my first one in 2003, so I didn't realize this is what happens now if you buy direct from TiVo. The box showed up under my account today, so I presume that means it will be shipping shortly/has shipped already (no email notification yet).

Maybe the "pre-activated" language just means that you get the standard couple days' service for free when you first set up the TiVo.
Kidzone is completely optional. It just sits in a folder unless you select it.

nope, pre-activated means that when TiVo charges your credit card (there's a $12.95 charge included on your invoice) your new box gets added to your account that same day. it's been fully activated for a couple of days when your shipment arrives.
