I have a 40GB RCA Tivo unit that I upgraded with a 160GB drive better than a year ago. Never had any issues.
I have been out of the country for the past 2.5 months and came home to find the Tivo unit not working.
I found the Tivo unit with the green power light on, however, nothing came up on the TV. I then played with the remote (and standby button) and all of sudden the power/rec lights starting flashing alternately. I unplugged the unit (no reset button) and waited some seconds. When I plugged it back in, all that came on was the fan. No power light. I have tried this numerous more times with the same result. Interestingly, and I don't know what this mean, but there is a blinking red light behind the optical out connector (which I don't use).
I opened the Tivo and disconnected the drives, tried it with one drive connected, etc. No luck. I cannot even hear the drives trying to come up. Just the fan is running.
Any help as to what this may be would be appreciated. If in fact I have to get a new Tivo because the board is fried, etc., can I put my two current drives (assuming they aren't the problem) into the new box so that I don't lose all my currently recorded programs and settings?
Thanks for any help!
