Can I watch shows from a Series 2 on my network?

I apologize if this has already been asked [I seem to keep getting slapped], but I couldn't find this question elsewhere:

Does the lack of Multi-room viewing on the Series 3 also mean that I cannot use the Series 3 to watch shows recorded on Series 2 devices on my home network? If so, that just doesn't make sense to me. What does that have to do with protecting the Series 3 digital content?
