Question What is this un-used 4 pin connector?

I was wondering, and I havent found anything about this, and wanted to see if anyone knows . . . does anyone have any clue what this 4 pin connector on the TiVo Series 3 652160 model is for? There's never been anything connected to it but I was wondering could it be for another fan? When it was unplugged I put a 4 pin plug on there from an Intel fan just to see if it would fit and it does, but I'm not going to turn it on and fry my TiVo. Also TiVo is clueless about it or they just dont want to tell me.

Any ideas?

I see the letters "TX G RX" next to it. I'm guessing it's a TTL-level serial port.

Is that for those cables Omikron used to sell for the S3's?

As I said elsewhere:

Quote:
The TX (transmit), G (ground), and RX (receive) labeling on the board adjacent to 3 of the 4 pins probably means that it's a serial port of some kind.

A quick Google later...

If you Google

Serial Console on THD

the first response should be to a thread on the "site whose name must not be spokent here"

Here's the direct link

http://www.************.com/forum/sh...Console-on-THD.

which you can see gets filtered.

But if you can Deal with searching the internet's vast Database, you'll know you're in the right place.

Let me know if you find out what that 4th pin is.

Although it could be nc (no connection) and they just used a 4 pin to avoid mixing it up with a 3 pin fan header. Does the HD have a 2 or 3 pin fan header?

The S3 doesn't have an external serial connection similar to previous models. The header is an internal serial port connection. I believe the 4th pin is unused.
