Where are ya'll getting $6.95/mo. for S3 service?
I was just looking at the tivo site and saw that the best service plan offered right now is 3 years for $299 (tivo is giving one year free). By my math that's about $8.31/mo. Am I missing something?

$6.95 is the monthly charge for an additional Tivo when you have more than one on your account.

Not if you bought the S3 from tivo.com with the service. If you bought it from the retail or VIP site, then it should be eligible.

Isn't there an option on Tivo.com to buy the S3 at the normal montly rate? I didn't buy it there but I saw it when I first got the email. Wouldn't it revert to $6.95 if you have a Tivo already on your account?
If you bought a pre-paid yearly rate, then I'd guess it wouldn't apply - although I don't know why anyone would do that if they could get the $6.95 if it's their 2nd + tivo.

The only current way to do that is to use the tivo.com VIP page to buy it without service. This is suppose to be for lifetime transfers but I can't see how it would matter. However, I would assume once the timetable for transfers is up in a few months you will no longer be able to get just the box at tivo.com.

Actually if you used one of the bundle options for the S3, and you have another TiVo which is month to month then that TiVo would drop to $6.95/mo. So the only way you don't get the $6.95/mo price is if you don't have any other TiVos at all or your other TiVo is lifetime and you accidentally ordered a S3 with bundled service.

Yep, but I thought the OP meant how do you get the S3 at the MSD rate. Any box from Tivo.com will qualify any other box you have as long as its not still under the bundled rate.

If someone didn't already own a TiVo (aka me) and was looking on Ebay for a S1 or S2, what would be the minimum spec to look for in a 'lifetime' model to get the $6.95/mo MSD? I see various boxes from Humax, Sony etc some with 'basic' lifetime, would that work?

No, you DON'T want "basic" lifetime. It is also called "plus service lifetime", but generally it's just called lifetime.
