Big, enormous apologies to start of, cuz I am sure this info can be culled elsewhere. Alas, my 10 minute of searches found lots of stuff, but my teensy-weensy little brain remains confused.
I am a current Series 2 TiVo user with Comcast digital Cable.
A couple of basic questions about TiVo Series 3 and Comcast:
To get two cable cards from Comcast, do I just call them up and they come out and shove them into the back of my new S3 TiVo (once I actually get one)? I've read lots of "horror stories" with other providers, so I'm confused why it's potentially such a big deal. Just cuz cable companies all s*ck, or is there more to it than that?
On a more basic and fundamental level, I've read the S3 FAQ and see that cable cards aren't required to use an S3. Can someone quickly explain to me what functionality having the cable cards provides (other than allowing you to get rid of the set top box and record two channels simultaneously)?
Thanks for your patience!
