The $799 price is true. Looks like I will be waiting a while for this one.

There's no option yet available for transferring lifetime subscription to the S3. Anyone have any info on when this might become available?
Hopefulyl sooner rather than later as my credit card is burning a hole in my pocket....

Probably not until next Monday. If you do plan on buying at that price, I doubt there will be any incentive to buy from Tivo.com, you'd probably do better to wait a week.
I find this price laughable and I'd like to see some sales numbers at next Q results.

I think it's supposed to be in retail stores "later this week or next week" according to engadget.

At this point, there is no mention of the S1/S2 $199 Lifetime transfer and you are forced to select a One Year service plan for $12.95.

The VIP page is live now!!
It resolves to
http://www.tivo.com/2.0.3hdDvr.plt.asp
and has an Add To Cart button on it. That button adds the S3 to your cart with a notiation giving the number to call for the lifetime transfer.

I just ordered one from the normal Tivo site and during the order process at Tivo.com I got a warning about a security certificate expiring 4 days ago. What was wierd is the warning popped up when the receipt was coming up on the screen. Then after that the receipt page did not fully load got hung up. Well at least the order confirmation number showed up on the portion of the receipt which did load.
It says that it takes 1 to 2 days to process the order and they have a variety of shipping options including next day, 2nd day, etc. 2nd day was only like $20 so I figured what the heck is another $20 on top of $800 right? Maybe before the weekend it will come, maybe. Since it is the first day, it is 9:21 in the morning perhaps they wont have lots of orders put in yet and will ship it today.

It also seems to be the only way to buy from TiVo without having to add service.
The page also says that only Series 3 units purchased from TiVo will be eligible for the lifetime transfer (!)

I have to say that I don't like the misleading text on the page:
"300-hour TiVo® Series3™ HD
Digital Media Recorder"
This strongly implies that the HD recording capacity is 300 hours. In the details below it lists the real recording capacity, but I really don't think they should be allowed to say it's a 300-hour HD recorder.

Oh, c'mon. every TiVo, ever, has been marketed based on max capacity. More than that, pretty much every DVR is.

Yes, max capacity when it's VARIABLE. But the HD recording capacity is not variable, it's fixed (well depending on the source, but not user-adjustable). It can not record 300 hours of HD, which is what that text says it can.

But it can record that much - of SD content. It records both.
I really don't see the problem, it isn't like they're hiding the data.

But you have to buy the tivo from tivo.com
Hi I've been lurking for awhile now. thought I'd put my 2c in. In responce to classicX's statement that there is no incentive to by from tivo directly. There are restrictions on the Lifetime xfer. The small print says that you have to buy by 12/31 and activate by 1/31. It must be purchased from tivo and DVRs purchased through retail channels are not eligible.
