CNET and Series 3
So I watched the latest CNET thingie that TiVo downloads (I really like these by the way), and it ends with Molly saying something like "and next week, we'll have... no, you'll just have to wait and see."
Anyone else hoping that it'll be an early review of the Series 3 TiVo? (If it is indeed supposed to come out on the 17th)

My thoughts exactly when I saw that.
Even though CNET and Tivo have a deal, I do hope that CNET is honest with its appraisal of the S3, if and when they do it. I'm also REALLY getting sick of watching the reviews of every cell phone that comes out. The car reviews are more interesting (although how many of us are looking to buy a Jaguar?).

I still think they've managed to pick out some cellphones with interesting features that set them apart from the rest.
In my opinion, they seem to be honest reviewers, so I too hope that if they review the Series 3 it will be a non-biased appraisal.

I don't even care about cars, but the guy who does the reviews is very good. Too bad he doesn't do more segments/technologies.

He says the same things every week:
Nice touchscreen GPS, can also show the backup video camera.
Multiple audio-visual capabilities but usually no dedicated I-Pod connector.
This baby will cost you an extra ten grand if you get all this tech stuff.

Well, how much can you vary that?

The CNET stuff can be interesting and I usually watch it. I do have a couple gripes and questions though...
- Why don't they tell us the MSRP of EVERY item reviewed???
- Does CNET have ANY employees that aren't some kind of "editor"?? I suspect that the janitor is the "Senior Associate Editor of Physical Facilities".
- Most of their people need some TV training!!!

That's being generous... most of them should not be on TV, period. I guess that sounds mean, but if they're serious about video reviews they need to get professionals (or naturals) in there. Giving prices is a good idea. I'd also like to see similar audio levels among segments (and having the car guy talk into his lapel mic more frequently). They don't need to introduce themselves dozens of times.

I think they introduce themselves in each segment because those segments show up on CNET's website in addition to being part of the TiVo presentation. I think Molly Wood does a little wrapper around the whole thing to make it appear to be a coherent package.

I love how they tell us every 10 seconds their name and that they are from CNet.com. I think they must say "CNet.com" a hundred times in just a few minutes. Frankly, I FF though most of it unless I see something I am interested in. I do always watch the car reviews because that guy is always interesting and isn't afraid to say when something sucks. Plus, its rare to get a car review from a purely technology perspective.
