Upgraded hard drive but shows won't record

I put a 250GB drive in the RCA DVR40, and now I can't record anything. When I hit the List button, a message comes up saying I need to restart or reset the DVR, which I've done several times, all to no avail. The message says that if that doesn't work to call RCA and report error #51.

When I loaded up this drive, I used the original drive from my first DVR (it was already at 6.2). I was thinking maybe this has something to do with it.

When I bring up the System Info screen, the entry for Service (something - about the 8th line down) says NA.

Can anybody offer their wisdom so i can fix this? Thanks.

Did you call DTV to resend the programming information?

This is what I did when I swapped HD's.

No, I didn't need to do that when I upgraded the other DVR. The programming is coming through OK, the guide data is there, it just won't record.

You need to rerun guided setup and allow the unit to make a phone call via landline to allow it to record programs.

No landline? Then hack the new drive with the 'zipper' and you'll never need a landline again for the unit.

It sounds like you used an image from a different TiVo. If so, you need to do a "clear & delete everything" to match your drive to the TiVo.

Yup, that's what I did. Instead of clearing everything, I just reran the upgrade commands using the drive from that unit. All's well now.
