So many "messages" that going into the messages menu crashes the tivo.

We didn't do an update on our Tivo for about a year, and all of the "nag" messages get saved in the messages area. Now when you go into the messages area because there's so many messages the tivo just hangs and won't load them.

Anyone know how to fix this? Perhaps do a master "delete all messages" thing?

It's a Directivo 40 Hughes unit.

Thanks

uhh... don't go to the messages menu anymore?

Short of a "Clear and Delete Everything", there is no fix unless you want to hack your DTivo and avoid the nag screen altogether.

I do, and have done. It doesn't make a difference all the "nag" messages are still there in the message box, and crash the tivo when I go into it.

If you've got the skills to know what this means, do this.

Code:
echo MfsRubbishTree /MessageItem/MessageBoard | tivosh
If not, just stay out of messages as suggested.

(these are not my instructions--just something I found on another forum we're not allowed to specifically mention here)

It's not hacked, but yes I know your commands and how they would help if I had console access.
Thanks

This is why I delete messages often. Fortunately for me, I learned of this threat in this forum prior to my experiencing this issue. I cleared out all messages before they numbered more than 70, and clear them at least a couple times a week, to keep the tedium to a minimum.
