Thumbs up Should I upgrade, from Series 1 to Series 2 ??

I've had a Hughes Direct TV Tivo Series 1 , dual LNB with an upgraded harddrive(172 hours) for a long time. Have lifetime subsription, which isn't offered anymore... While changing to a New TV (not HD) the audio channel went out on the Series 1 unit. I called around to see about repairing series 1, I then started looking into options and a refurbished series 2 with an harddrive upgrade that could use my existing XP Media wireless network started making sense. Can I really burn DVD,s from my media Computer for favorite shows? Can I save my Series 1 harddrive info and put info on network with Series 2 ?? It seems too easy, any pointers or feedback appreciated.

Yes, with free hobbyist-developed software installed on the S2 DTiVo (not R10 unless you are good at desoldering surface-mount components), you can save shows from the TiVo to a PC for burning to DVD or whatever. You can't do this with the stock software. Unless you have network-enabled your S1, you can't transfer anything. Even if you did, the best you could hope for is to save and restore season passes, channel lists, etc, not recorded shows (these won't play with audio on the S2.)

Thnx,, I thought so, I still burn DVD's directly from my Series 1, but it takes awhile but some of that stuff is many years old, so I'll save it the hard way for unique things, all others I'll pick up re-runs etc.

I assume that either you have a standalone DVD recorder connected to the Series 1 or you have "hacked" it to add networking. You can do the same to an S2.
