dvd recorders and directv tivo

When I connected my new toshiba dvd recorder to the output of my directv hd tivo and I tried to record I CAN record the audio portion but cannot record the video. I am using component audio and S video. Does any one have any ideas?

I'm assuming you meant composite audio (red/white) connections and not component. If using s-video to connect to the dvd recorder, make sure the tivo is set to 480i resolution since thats the only resolution that the s-video cable or your dvd recorder will be able to use. You can change the resolution either with the format button on the face of the tivo, or by using the up arrow button on your remote.

What DirecTV DVR do you have? Also, make sure you have the TiVo outputs connected to the DVD recorder inputs. And, select the correct input for recording.

Sometimes there are settings where you have to change the particular input on your DVD recorder between S-video and composite, whichever you're using. Like input 1 can be composite or s-video, and you sometimes have to find a setting to change that to the right one.

If you use the Save To VCR option on the HR10-250, it will remind you to change the output resolution to 480i so the composite and s-video ports are turned on. Otherwise, you have to remember on your own. It's covered in that blue book that came with your receiver.
