How will the TiVo flash upgrade to cable box work?

I hope someone from TiVo will read this and answer my question. Just what will the upgrade change on the cable/DVR box? I receive service from Cox and use a Scientific-Atlants box. Currently all setting are place in the settings menu. My concern is not the DVR functions, but cable box functions one of which is for close caption. At the time I purchase my HD set the standard for HD close caption was not set. Because of this the TV does not provide close caption for HD. Cox's became aware of this and issue a statement that they were working on providing close caption for HD, which they did.
Now my question: Will the TiVo upgrade affect this option on the cable box?

you will not see a TiVo upgrade on Scientific Atlantic hardware till at least 2008 if then. The hardware port being worked on now is to Motorolla boxes.

PS - I doubt TiVo is going to post yet on any features for the cable deals

In theory, it should work the same way the HD DirecTiVo does. There's a Closed Captioning section in the settings menu.

But, like ZeoTiVo said, I doubt TiVo can address this question.

If you want to get a Series 2, it usually passes CC, and HD cable boxes should send it out their SD outputs.

The Series 3 should output captions, as it pretty well is the law they have to.

Two issues with that.
1) The OP's HD TV doesn't have a built in ability to display closed captions.
He needs the cable box to turn them into open captions by displaying them as part of the video. Series 2 TiVos don't do that, and Series 3 might, but I haven't heard anything either way.

2) The OP appears to be asking about the deal between TiVo and COX to release TiVo software for existing COX DVRs. So even S3 information isn't exactly what he was asking for.
