Connecting Tivo to PC

Hi

I just got the Tivo DVR series 2 and plug it on my router using an ethernet cable (from the ethernet into the Tivo to the router).
I have my PC on wireless on the same network.
I installed the TivoDesktop software and can't transfer files to my PC.

It's weird because I think that the Tivo is recognized. Because when I go to the Tivo Desktop, Server properties, Access Control, my DVR appears on the list (with the name and right IP address).
But when I click "Pick Recordings to Transfer", it says "There was an error while attempting to recover data from the selected DVR. Access is denied".

Anyone got any idea how to fix that??

Thanx a lot!

Couple things. Make sure you go to https://www3.tivo.com/tivo-mma/dvrpref.do and allow transfers. Then your Tivo box has to see this change. You can speed it up by forcing a connection or two (the connect to Tivo service now option) under network settings on the Tivo itself.

Recently, somebody on the forum couldn't get his new Tivo to work until it updated to the latest software; 7.3.1. Why that was is beyond me.

Good luck!

Ok, I did change the options to allow the transfer but I didn't make any new connections. I'll try that! Thanx for the tips!

If it won't let you make a connection due to a pending 2am restart, just restart the box now. You don't have to wait it out.

I did restart it, but I still get the same message?? I even tried plugin the PC directly with the USB, and that's same thing...

Is there something wrong with my connection?? Cause I noticed on the tivo manual that they're saying to plug the ethernet cable with an ethernet adapter to the USB of the Tivo... When I directly put the ethernet cable to the ethernet of the tivo...

Thanx for your help!

If you see the 2am pending restart, I meant restart the Tivo, not the PC. When it says that it is going to install a software update upon reboot.

That will never work. You can't connect your Tivo and PC together via a USB cable.

I assume you have the new DT Tivo. They are the only ones currently that have a built-in ethernet jack. The single tuner 540 requires either a USB to ethernet adapter, or a wireless USB adapter.

I did restart the Tivo, not the PC (actually both just in case I misunderstood...). Maybe I should have restarted the Tivo again, because this morning it's working fine! And I can transfer the files directly to my PC...

Thanx for your help! And I download the VideoReDo software and it's pretty useful to edit the file and cut commercials and stuff...

If you are doing the trial, make sure you register or you'll be limited to 30 minutes.
