Multiple 7.3.1 Downloads

My TiVos, especially my original S2 ST, keep getting the summer update over and over. I must have gotten it some 5 or 6 times on that unit, and 2 or 3 on my DT.

Kind of annoying to have it restarting - giving me that update message and resetting the 30 second skip. Also restarted once while I was watching a recorded letterman. Also seems like a waste of bandwidth and effort for the TiVo. If they make an update to 7.3.1, they don't need to send the whole thing again, do they?

Anyone else having this issue?

Actually, the TiVo is not downloading the software again. It already has the software ready to install. Something is going wrong in the installation process, so it does not completely update. The next time it calls in, it is set to reload the software. This will happen over and over again. I do not think there is anything that can be done about it. I had the same problem with an earlier version. My TiVo rebooted every day at 2AM until the next version was released. Fortunately, it was only a few months.

The problem is probably related to a bad download or you could be seeing the beginning or hard drive issues. It was apparently hard drive issues for me. I put in a bigger drive and saved recordings. Of course, it continued to reboot every day until the next version downloaded and installed.

The only other way to fix it is to reload the hard drive. If the unit is under warranty, TiVo will probably replace it.

Yes, I did. I know that since I checked after my units started to be slow as molasses.

I don't recall my ST or DT ever being slow after receiving the update. Maybe a slight slow down on the ST back when the update first rolled out, but it's up to speed now and was never anything like my Humax is with 7.3.1 (I have not seen it "reinstall" 7.3.1 yet, though).

ALL my units have done this (five units) several times.

No improvements to delays introduced by 7.3*.

No change in version number. ( I would hope to God TiVo would up the version number for any "tweaks".)

Come on, TiVo, get your freakin act together. Where the hell is 7.3.2? Pony? Opsmgr?

Sorry to hear about this issue. If you downloaded 7.3.1 twice, that could be normal if you had signed up for the priority list. If you're getting it more than twice (such as every day), that's not normal.

Please e-mail me (estephen@tivo.com) a TiVo Service Number and I'll investigate.

Best regards,
Stephen

mine did this as well. DRT800. I could tell it was doing this because the whole network was slow. I thought I had a virus or something, nope unplugged the tivo things shot up to normal.
Well and now after the 7.3.1 update my drt800 is real bad. I can not believe this was not caught in the beta testing. this was tested right? I mean this is annoying as hell you turn the channel and wait like 20 seconds for the banner to catch up. Not to mention when you want to go into the menu I might as well hit the tivo button and go start dinner. come back hit select to go into the now playing. Take a dump. and I might have something there when I get back or it could still be sitting on the main menu.

One of the last updates took out my Toshiba DVD tivo now this one is taking the humax out. WTF? Last time they said it was the hard drive and not their fault. What about this time? I think microsoft is looking @ buying tivo not Apple...and heck I am not an apple person @ all. I just want to watch tv!!

Both of my Series 2 single tuner TiVo's have done this as well! I wish now I'd been keeping up with how many times it's happened.....but definately more than two times. The unit in the bedroom I know has done it at least 4 times. The unit in the den, not as many (but more than once!)
