SA series 2 Tivo or DirecTivo series 2?

SA series 2 Tivo - not until Tivo released TivoToGo for the Mac

DirecTivo series 2 - yes, if you hack them first with http://www.mastersav.com/tivo_zipper.html
Check the Tivo Underground forum for more info

You can transfer between the two TiVos if they are connected to a network with USB network adapters.

Correct, transfers between the TiVo's is independent of the TiVo2Go software.

Pre-Tivotogo for Mac options

I know this wasn't the question you asked, but since you brought up the iMac, you might also want to know a little more about Tivotogo for us Mac users. Before they release the Mac verison, there still are some related activities you can do that do involve your Mac, short of watching the transferred video on your computer or an iPod etc. The following funcitons are explained in other threads if you search the forum:

1) you can transfer the files to your Mac simply for archiving purposes, in case your Tivo box has a full drive. I do this all the time and then transfer them back when I want to watch them (see item 2 below for how to do this). To move them from your Tivo, you need to use the web interface for your Tivo. Find the IP address of your Tivo, which is listed in the settings area of your Tivo menu, and then point Safari to "h-t-t-p-s//<IP address>/nowplaying. The hyphens in that URL are simply to satisfy this forum's restrictions for SPAM - remove them in your actual URL. Use "tivo" as the username and your media access key as the password.

2) You can use the reverse function which people call "GoToTivo" today with the latest TivoDesktop 1.9.3 for Mac release. This means you can keep MPEG-2 formatted files on your hard drive, for instance ripped from a DVD or transferred from your Tivo as above, and then move them to your Tivo to watch. The catch is that it's a hidden function in Tivo Desktop. In the System Prefs, hold down the Apple key while selecting Tivo desktop. A hidden tab will appear for "Movies". You may have to restart after selecting the folder which you want the Tivo to see.

I have a quick question. If I hook up two series 2 units together with a usb wire, can they transfer that way? I am looking for a faster way than on the wireless peer-to-peer that I have now. Thanks.

I'm pretty sure you can't connect the Tivo's with just a USB cable. Tivo's identify each other thru IP addresses - so you'll need a wired or wireless USB to Ethernet adapter for each of your Tivo's AFAIK.

You can't interconnect with USB (USB doesn't work that way).
TiVo only recognizes network adapters. You can do wired peer to peer though, and the TiVo brand Wireless adapter is not that slow, really.

So can I wire them together with the adapters and transfer without a network? I have the new dual tuner which has an ethernet connection so do I just need one adaptor to hook them together? And then transfer? Or do they need to go through a router?

Thanks
Pat

If you just connect the two TiVos together, you will need to connect them with a "crossover" CAT5 network cable rather than a standard CAT5 network cable. You can use the ethernet port on the DT and connect to a USB adapter (that is supported by TiVo) on the other TiVo.
