Won't change channel to movies on wishlist

Thre must be some glitch with the new software.

I have "movies" as a wishlist item.

When I hit view current listings....there is a list of movies that are currently on.

I could highlight, hit select and the movie would appear after tivo changed the channel.

Now, it goes to whatever channel was last used.

I went to settings and tested the "change channel" and it changes fine...but not when you highlight a movie on a list that requires a change in channel to get to it.

Help?

That doesn't even sound like anything that any TiVo is supposed to do.

A "movies" wishlist wouldn't have a "view current listings" option, it would have a "view upcoming programs" option which would display a list of all the upcoming movies. Selecting one of the movies would not result in a channel change and going to Live TV. You would only have the options of recording it or viewing upcoming showings of that same movie.

Then I think that maybe what you meant was that you have a "Movies" filter on your program guide. That doesn't make sense either because the on screen guide is the current listings and therefore doesn't have an option to "view current listings" 'because you are already doing that.

Maybe if you gave a more precise step-by-step description of what you are doing someone may have an explanation. What model Tivo you have may also be useful to know.

You have to select "Auto-record Wishlist programs" in the particular Wishlist.

On second thought, that probably has nothing to do with your question.

Both my tivos do this. I created a wishlist of "Movies" and when you select it, it gives you CURRENTLY running movies in the list (ordered by time started) and movies that will be coming up. I'm sure this is normal. Try it on your tivo. Anyway before Friday (software upgrade)...I could see the list of some movies currently playing and some coming up...those that were currently playing I could highlight, select "watch now" and it would automatically go to that movie and channel. It doesn't do that any more. I have a series 2 tivo made by tivo from about 4-5 years ago. If it is a movie that is coming up and not currently playing the "watch now" would not appear but the "record" would show as an option which makes sense. If I hit "record" then when the movie comes on...tivo would record it and the channel would get changed. I called tivo tech and they said that they think there is some glitch in the software because yes it is supposed to do what I said.

No, Tivo has never been capable of doing what you said.

What you said was

what you actually meant was that you could highlight, hit select and the option to "watch now" or "record now" would appear. If you choose "record now" all would work as expected , but if you choose "watch now" you would only get brought oto live TV w/o the appropriate channel change. You can not go directly from the list of movies to live TV by just selecting the movie.

What you originally said you could do in the past has never been possible. That's why I asked for specifics.

1. It did, it was possible. Ask Tivo
2. You aren't helping. It makes no sense that it would not work. It has always worked that way. Perhaps you didn't have a wishlist that would have CURRENT showings....what other purpose would there be to a choice of "watch now" if tivo wouldn't then change the channel and go to that channel so that I could "watch now" the item selected. I have two tivos that did this. Are you saying I had 2 flucky tivos? No way. Why is it that Tivo recognizes the error?

You obviously don't get what I'm saying. You are skipping an important step. With out that step, your claim is not possible and which makes it more difficult for people to know what you are doing that you want help with or information about.

Your claim
Find programs > wishlists > movies > Forest Gump --->> live TV (correct channel or not)

Reality
Find programs > wishlists > movies > Forest Gump > watch now --->> live TV (correct channel or not)

Argh!!!!

1. Turn TV on
2. Click Tivo Remote.
3. Scroll down to "Find Programs"
4. Scroll to "wishlist search"
5. Scroll to "movies" wishlist (this is one of my wishlists)
6. Click "view upcoming"
7. scroll list of currently running movies AND movies about to start. They are listed in order of "start time" or those about to currently end (I never pay attention to how they are listed only they are in time order with the currently playing ones first and then later by start time).
8. highlight movie that I want to watch that is CURRENTLY playing. click
9. click "watch now"

Before Friday...by clicking "watch now" TIVO would change the channel to the channel where the highlighted movie was. After friday...TIVO merely goes to whatever the cable box channel is on (from whatever I last viewed on live tv).

I cannot explain it more simpler than that.!!!! Sheesh

Clearly there is a problem and it seems others are having similar types of changing channel issues.

Mick 66: Did you even READ my post???????? I highlighted the step that CLEARLY stated that after clicking and selecting "WATCH NOW" I have no clue why you couldn't understand my post. It was clear. You have not helped the situation.

You're not crazy, funnyesq. Using your directions, I was able to duplicate this behavior on my 230 box running 7.3.1.

I created a Category Only WishList for Movies, then went to View Upcoming Programs. Selected a movie currently playing and selected Watch Now and it just dumped me to Live TV without changing the channel.

My TiVo was recording American Chopper at the time, so I even tried stopping the recording and trying your steps again, same result.

So this would definitely seem like a bug. I don't use WLs in this way, so I wouldn't have noticed.

Odd, that definitely should work.

Just as a debugging step can you please:
1) go to your movie wishlist
2) find a movie that is currently on
3) exit the movie wishlist
4) go to search by title
5) find that same movie from step 2
6) select that movie
7) click "watch now"

I'm wondering if the bug broke all instances of "watch now" or if it is somehow a subtler bug involving an interaction between wishlists and "watch now".

It may be the "watch now" function as the same non-channel changing happens when I go to "search by title" for the same movie and click "watch now."

Tivo will change the channel to the movie if it is an upcoming movie. I have tested this not only with the movies wishlist but other stuff I have like season passes etc. So I guess Tivo will have to tweak the software to fix the "watch now" function?????

Question This still hasn't been fixed?

I saw this same problem appear at about the same time that you did, funnyesq. It's definitely a bug. I ignored it, figuring it would be fixed within a week or two if not days. But that wasn't the case... and now, it has been bothering me for almost 2 months.

Does anybody have any word on when it will be fixed? It's pretty irritating to have to note the channel the program is on and then key in the numbers; that kinda defeats the purpose of "watch now".

Watch Now has been broken since 7.3. It's one of the many bugs still included in 7.3.1. Whether or not it will ever be fixed, no one can say.
