Need help with HR10-250

Hi, I am new here and hope I am posting this in the right spot. I looked through the sticky at the top and didn't find anything similar to the problem I am having so I hope and would really appreciate if anyone could help.

I am in my shop now about to blow two of these things up. I have one that I bought off ebay when they first came out but I went through 2 defective units before I received one that worked correctly. One of them has sat in my closet for a few years and has not been used. The one I have been using started going in and out over the last two days. It acts almost like it is pausing itself then will play in slow motion and then completely black out and cycle through until you unplug it for 30 seconds and plug it back in. After plugging it back in it will do it again after a few minutes. Of course each time you go through this it has to download from the dish and takes about 10 minutes to start working and you lose anything it was recording when it was unplugged. Does this sound familiar to anyone?

The second unit that was defective will not show a picture. I know it works because I can hear the tivo options when I press up or down on the remote. However, this thing can't possible be programmed if you can't see the options to choose from. So I was thinking maybe if I took both apart and swithed some things out I could have 1 that works. Any Takers? I am in my shop now with both units exposed and would love to hear some input before I blow two $400 units up.

I was thinking if I switched the drives out that it may solve my problem but I have no idea if this is even the problem.

You might get more help in the "HDTV TiVo Powered PVRs" section of the forum.

For the no video, have you used the front panel button to cycle through the various output format options? Which video output kind (composite, S-Video, component, HDMI) are you using and what does your TV accept for resolutions? You'll get no output on composite and S-Video unless the box is set for 480i.

The first unit sounds as if it has a bad disk.

I love my HR10-250 -- it has been flawless for going on a year now.
