Question Daily update using TivoToGo?

Does any one know if I can download the guide listing (daily updates) to my computer and send them to the Tivo using TivoToGo?

Here's why I'm asking...
- I don't have a phone line (can't call in to get the updates)
- I live in an apartment complex that provides free wireless internet, but they won't let me directly connect to the router. I have to use a web-interface to log in.
- This means my Tivo cannot directly connect to the internet
- SOLUTION? - Download the info to my computer and then send it to the Tivo?

Any advice would be appreciated. THANKS!

Ok, so I didn't read your original post thoroughly. I would contact the super and ask if there is a way to hook up your tivo over broadband. I would guess that you wouldn't be the first one to ask, and they could allow access to the network through mac id.

This would allow your tivo to connect to the internet and do all of the schedule downloading that it desires.

So what do you do to connect to the internet normally? I'm assuming your computer has to detect the wireless connection. What do you do then? Are you saying that you type a local IP address and then type in the log-in info?

Have you tried using an adapter and going through the Tivo network setup? What happens?

To answer your original question, no you can't simply "download" the guide from your computer to your Tivo. It has to be either by phone line or broadband internet access.

To login to the network, I am assuming that they bring up IE or firefox, and a login screen is there which allows her to access the internet. So the question is, do you have to login to the network everytime you want to use the internet, or just once a day? You might be able to get a usb wireless adapter, hook it up to a computer (assuming you have one), login to the network, then unhook the adapter and hook it up to the tivo. I'm not sure if that would do the trick. Maybe a network specialist could comment.

I ran into this last fall (we were staying in a hotel while between houses) and their free internet had the access page where I had to login and give it the room number about once every 24 hours (sometimes more, sometimes less). Anyway, I setup my PC with a wireless adapter to hook to the Internet, then strung the Tivos (2 of them) to the PC with a switch and used Internet Connection Sharing on the PC to let them connect.

Sounds like the same setup should work for you.
