Have Cox... Get a S2 now or hold out for S3?

I have a Cox HDDVR, had it for 3 months, before that went with OTA bunny ears for 9 months. Prior to that I had an employee sub to DirecTV. I don't watch a lot of HDTV, and when I do i pipe it through my 24" Dell LCD monitor (2405FPW) if I want the uber picture. Still looks damn good on my normal TV tho...

I am itching for a TiVo again. I used to have a modded (and upgraded HDD) DirecTiVo but face the wrong way to bring it to my apartment (facing north, no realistic way to get a dish for this particular apartment...), so it is being used as a regular receiver ( ) at my parent's place.

I'm paying Cox 10/mo for their HDDVR, which is starting to reboot itself on occasion. The last one did this before just going out one day and I had to swap it. If it comes to that, I'm just going to go back to a normal digital box, and get a TiVo. It would cost a little more, but would get so much more service and satisfaction using it so not too worried about that.

My question is... given the above babble should I hold out for a Series 3 which I might not even be able to immedieately afford when it ships, or just bite the bullet and get back to enjoying the TiVo I know and love and get a series 2 DT box?

Any replies are appreciated. I've been browsing the forum more and more lately as I've thought about doing this... didn't realize how much I missed TiVo.

I am sufferign the same dilema for Comcast have their HD DVR but hate it compared to my old DirecTivo. If you are using digital; do you know if the analog signal coming through directly from the cable is unscrammled?? If so, you could use the S2 DT box but note that unlike the DirecTV tivos you wont get true dual tuner with two digital feeds.... I personally am waiting for the S3!

I originally purchased the Series 2, and have Cox Cable. Its ok, except that there is noticable picture degreadation on standard tv and no hd tv. I just signed up for the cox dvr. It does all of the basics that I liked on my tivo, except that the on screen menues leave a lot to be desired. I really miss my folders.

I keep waiting for the Series 3, but whether I will purchase it will depend largely on the price.

so the question to the OP is - do you watch a lot of Digital channels? would you expect to want to record two digital channels at the same time ?

there is a thread here about a DT S2 for 155.40 total for the first year. would be a good deal for someone not having a TiVo already and you have a year to watch the S3 saga unfold before deciding.

I'd say go for it. The DT is fairly inexpensive so it might be a good idea to grab one in the meantime. Of course they don't dual tune digital channels so if that's not a big concern and you're just after the friendly interface and reliability of a TiVo box get one!

I do watch a lot of digital channels, so I'd end up with 1 tuner full of them, and 1 tuner with 1-99. They're not scrambled, we have them fine with no adapter in the living room. I'm aware of the limitations I think.

/fidget.

$155 is so tempting. Thanks for the responses guys.
