Stargate SG-1 08/04/2006 - *** Spoilers ***
This one was only sort of 'meh' for me. Not sure why, it just didn't pop at all, and the timing of the arrival of the gas and the Baal's escaping were a little silly.
I was hoping for better after the great show last week.

And why didn't Carter download a fake set of gate addresses? They had plenty of time to fake a set once Ba'al mentioned them. He didn't have enough time to verify that he even had gate addresses. Sheesh.

As soon as the second Ba'al was captured and brought back to the base I thought, you've got to be kidding me. Of course I didn't know what Ba'al's final plan was but still, having that many clones together? Not a particularly smart decision.
And now that we've essentially defeated the Gou'ald we can just send an SG team in and capture a system lord? Pfff the Gou'ald are so old and busted. The Ori are the new hotness.
And the two new Gate addresses already turned up nothing (so far)? A little hope wouldn't kill them.
Next week's episode doesn't have me that excited either.

I think they saved their money for last weeks episode and next weeks 200th. I'm hoping it's pretty cool next week. It's hard to get excited for stargate without the Battlestar payoff at the 10 p.m. slot. I'm hoping for more Ori based episodes the rest of the way.
On another note, Vala....mmmmmmmmmmm.

I was kind of amazed that they let a computer in Baal's territory stay on the network...either SGC really did fake Baal out with false data, or they're as stupid and lazy as, well, the writers have become lately.

frankly, I'm very very angry...the amount of stupid things that they want us to believe SG-1 would do is beyond belief...
I kept thinking that this is just a ruse to flush out the real Baal, because no one can be THAT stupid...but they want us to now think that they all are...
and I guess they think we're stupid as well...the entire ep just made me very angry...

I knew right away that the idea was to bring the clones together to get enough signal strength to blast through the jamming. Why else would they even mention jamming?
(I didn't figure out the brainwashed guy, though)

The episode was so-so.....
But the best part of the episode was...
The teaser commercial for the 200th episode of SG-1 (a show that when it premiered on Showtime, they said wouldn't last).

I was disappointed with this episode as well.
The writers must have went on vacation and let the cleaning crew finish this up.
Sheesh.
Putting all their Ba'als in one basket (room). How stupid is that!

Oh, and just for the record, Carter did not do the right thing! And the general should have told her so in no uncertain terms. Every one of those hostages knew the risks of being involved in the gate program (and/or NID field work), and accepted them. Even the smallest chance that the latest superweapon would fall into the wrong hands was enough justify some loss of life to prevent it. I don't care if she had a crush on Barrett, she should have refused to give Baal the code.
Then again, I've always thought that they took the "no man let behind" policy to ridiculous and inexcusable extremes on this show, way beyond what any real military force in war-time would risk. So maybe I'm not the best person to ask

Why was carter able to download anything. Who lets every terminal on the base have access to sensitive data.?
Why when a lockdown was called were not all the codes changed. Expecially the people that were taken hostage.? Carter could have at least pretended they had changed the codes.
Why do they value human life over national security.?
Why did then not notice that there jammers were being overrun.? they had the technology to see there was a device.? Did they not know how strong they were.? Did they not have sensors outside the base picking up anything.?
This show makes no sence.

Now we know that you don't need a heavily armed assault force to gain access the SGC's main computer, just one guy with a lot of Baals.
I thought it was funny how quickly they glossed over the ship crashing just outside Denver. This wasn't an orbital dog fight, or a battle over Antartica, but F-16s shooting down a large alien spacecraft near a heavily populated area. I do hope that before the series dies they let the public know the secret. There might be a show or two worth of material there.
When the NID guy was on the floor on the room with one of the Baals, I really expected to find that the symbiote had moved into him while out of camera view. Even if this killed the Baal clone, no one would have missed one of them. Up until all the Baals were in one room together I thought we'd find them all killed or captured and the NID guy walk out with the data.

Heck, given the number of times bad guys have gotten loose in the SGC and taken hostages, shouldn't they have a response in place to cut off mainframe access from the compromised areas or lock out accounts of hostages. Or both?
Edit: I see I've smeeked. Oh well. It deserves to be repeated.

I have to agree with everyone's comments here (so I won't repeat).
But.
One other point that REALLY bugged me was with the General and that (sheesh) scientist.
Talk about unnecessary delay.
Civilian or not - I was more than a little irked that the General didn't push that guy to hurry up with the gas dispersal.

Well, SGC still has two Ba'al clones and they may be able to get something out of them.
I was rolling my eyes at how easy it was to capture a former system lord, but that was simply Ba'al's plan all along. I'm just HOPING that somehow SG1 figured out Ba'al was playing them, and then came up with their own plan to allow Ba'al to expend his resources searching for Merlin's weapon so that SG-1 can swoop in at the last minute and steal it from under his nose.
The only problem with that is - why would the writers not clue the audience in? So I don't think my counter-plan is actually in effect.

Why would anyone think that the real Ba'al would put a tracking device into himself.

well, all of them had a tracking device...one of them was clearly giving the orders...so you can assume that he was the real one...
funny how the one giving the orders had the number "1" on his chest...

I noticed that as well. Does that mean that the very first Ba'al, the one that crash-landed, was the real Ba'al all along? Presumably those numbers were handed out by the SGC, although I guess they could have swapped uniforms/numbers later on.
BTW, I still didn't think that the original was necessarily with them until the end, when #1 stepped up to the pilot's console like he owned the place. It could still be that he's just the first among the clones, but it seemed like they were suggesting that this was the real Ba'al.

I had hoped that we'd left those really bad eps behind us a couple of years ago but I guess not.

At first I thought their response to ba'al having the codes was way too calm, but then again, what can they do about it?
I figured that they would all gather together to amplify the tracking signal early on in the episode, and I thought the agent that went in the room was actually a goa'uld. 1 out of 2 ain't bad. I should've figured, since throughout the whole show they kept showing him going back and forth with Hammond about getting access to the balls. *ahem* i mean ba'als.
Anyway, I'm not so sure that they faked the set of addresses because when Carter came in the room they were already at the login screen - perhaps they found the file needed and just needed the password to begin the download.
I really hope the battle between the Ori and the Tou'ri is worth it because these "filler" episodes SUCK.

Yeah... I thought the same. What a total moron. I mean, the whole point of finding this weapon was that it could save the entire galaxy from an Ori invasion. But she is willing to give all that up over some twit she knows? She didn't even hestiate!!!

It's just too bad they don't have a way to track them once... they've... left...
OH WAIT! They have a tracking device. Um, go get them?
