Eureka 8/1/2006 (S01E04) "Before I Forget"

That device to make people forget was certainly a more worthy weapon than quite a number of things; it seems like everyone ignored that aspect.

Nice episode overall, though I guess I just have to dumb down some expectations about how thorough they're going to be with such loose ends. The show isn't a Veronica Mars, after all.

Men In Black...

One plot disparity: I note that sometimes the device "cleared" a lot of memory/time, and some times not much (a few minutes). I didn't see, nor did they allude to a control for duration as per MIB. I seem to recall that Henry said something about it wiping twenty minutes, the time it takes for stuff to move from short-term to long-term memory.

I liked it. It was a nice stray from the "Evil Section 5" Fish thing, while keeping a tie with the bad lady. I enjoy this show, and try not to think too hard about it. It is not trying to be a BattleStarGalactica or Lost so far as I can see, just easy going entertainment.

I look forward to it during this dreary summer.

Did anyone else keep waiting for the videotaped "I Promise" to be used again, most likely as a hologram to help save the day? Anytime they make a point to do something that doesn't quite fit, I think it's supposed to mean something more. This time: Nope.

I also wondered about the 20 minutes...the biggest question being if it erases 20 minutes, does that mean the guy stalked the other 2 (sorry, still too early on to remember characters' names) in the past and erased it every time they kissed or had any kind of meaningful conversation? I could understand if he could erase a month at a time or something, but if it was 20 minutes, that's a lot of stalking to do over a relationship (if they did indeed have one, which they seemed to have).

Interesting how this and the 4400 could interchange these "powers/weapons" (depending on which show you're watching).

Good episode. I was glad they kept Kim around instead of making her stoop to Jason's level. It was really an interesting idea, just how much had Jason f'd with Kim's (and Henry's) life? Kim really can't trust what she remembers as being true because the she's not certain why she may have made a decision.

But than to me this is where the plot was at it's weakest. Jason would have to be relatively close to something he wanted to change or within 20 minutes walking distance unless he upgraded the device. Also, why wasn't the user of the device effected?

There was an episode of Eureka this week? There was a Tuesday this week? Who are you people again? What's my name?

Oh, and the Asian girl was highly spankable. I'll give her 4 outta 5 paws.

I thought it was a very good episode, even though the DOD lady wasn't in it much. The story was interesting while still being full of holes. But that was ok because it was pretty well done. I liked them starting the show from the middle and then going back to the beginning. Sort of giving the viewer a bit of the effect from Memento.

I was glad that they kept her around too. I was so afraid they were going to do the "story of the week", then poof, those characters were gone again and shows that do that always feel like there really wasn't a point other than to fill an episode. This gives the show some continuity and it's nice to see another side to Henry.

And who knows... maybe they get to find out all over again that they couldn't stand each other.

The scientist when he got pulled over, he was in the car with the woman who runs the B&B (and psychiatrist). She knew of the device because she told him that she couldn't be seen with him. But it never elaborated on that particular scene in the show later on. There was a brief part where he was in jail that faintly referenced hers and the guys relationship but never went any further.

What's the tie-in with her, the guy and the device?

What's the point of a teaser if you are just going to spill the ol' beans?

What's the tie in? Well, tune in! Heh.... She is obviously the agent for some kind of dark, mysterious organization... but what is their plan?

Good episode.

One thing to keep in mind is that a show like this is bound to be full of holes. Ya just gotta accept them, and watch the show for its entertainment value, not for its scientific merit. It's on Sci-Fi for a reason, after all!

Yeah, and that channel recently lost a lot of respect... considering what they are now airing immediately after Eureka.

OMG! That would be a great follow-up! Throw a little twist into their blissful future. You're twisted, but it's just what the show needs. Love it!

Is Tamlyn Tomita going to be a regular on the show? Recurring guest star? One can only hope. I have had a crush on her since her appearance in the Babylon 5 pilot/movie "The Gathering". She has recently been on both Stargate programs.

The interesting thing on Babylon 5 is that she was the one originally scheduled to stab Garibaldi in the back...

Yet another Stargate SG-1 guest cast appearance ...

Jason Anderson (Andrew Airlie) has appeared twice in SG-1

plus a number of other science fiction TV shows including The 4400

It could be as simple as how long he holds the button. Anyway, we only really saw him use it once, and that was an emergency situation; in the other instances he may have had time to tweak some hidden dials on the back of the thing...

Dang. I had a bunch of thoughts last night after we watched it and today, nothing. But we did enjoy it.

Oh, one thing: hasn't anyone learned by now that when you even SUSPECT memory-erasing techniques at play, you write EVERYTHING DOWN all the time. That said, I knew they were going to have a hidden video thing, but when it actually happened I had already forgotten about it so I liked that.

While a spoiler tag might have been good. Shoot Garibaldi seems to get shot or stabbed somewhere almost every third episode.

I thought it was interesting that an EMP device wouldn't mess with the hidden video camera.

And you'll notice that from my phrasing, the uninitiated wouldn't know if I was being figurative or literal. But all you whiney whiners whining about spoilers in your whiney little voices must have missed that point!

Seriously, though, as far as I'm concerned the statute of limitations for B5 spoilers has long since expired...

It may not be high power enough to really fry anything. And anyway I thought the shot of the view-pad see saw stopped just after she hit the button --before the "pretty lights" fully enveloped the camera. Of course a real EM pulse would move a bit faster than that...

BTW, I thought that the "happy ending" was bit of a cop-out, and shows that this show still can't decide what maturity level it's going for. I mean, even if she did just "turn down" the field, she was still endangering his life; she should have been hauled off on charges for that, as well as for sabotaging a government test project in the process.

I don't have to imagine it. Same thing happened to me when I accidentally walked into that lesbian bar.

Well at least I think it was an accident.

The whole premise of the episode fails under one plot point: The sheriff's car should've some sort of a video camera in the front. Cop cars in big US cities have them already, so I'm sure Eureka would have them too (and maybe in HD or 3D).

Also, the camera in the body was attached on way more than 20 minutes ago (even before his 50 minutes in jail). The sheriff should've remembered that he had it on him.

It wasn't on him when he was in the jail cell. His shirt was open and you can see that there was no camera.
