Moved a DSR6000 to a room without phone line - what to expect?
I just moved a Philips DSR6000 to a guest bedroom without a phone line. The unit already has the 3.5 upgrade. I realize I won't be able to do PPV with the remote but that is no problem. What about the guide data and recording ability? Does 3.5 get the guide data over the satellite now? Or will I have to move the receiver to a phone line once in a while? How often and why? Are the nasty "make a daily telephone call" messages harmless - ie, can they be dismissed without losing "good standing" status?
Sorry for such elementary questions.... Howard

You should be OK. You will just get the nag messages every day after about 45 days. You might want to delete the messages in the messsage box occasionally as some models have been known to lock up if you go to messsages with too many messages in your message box.
Guide data is all done via satellite feed. The phone call only assists with the updates. Since you have a series 1 unit, there probably will not be any further updates.

Anyway to clear the message box once this happens? I don't really care to read any of the messages, but my kids occasionally click the right buttons to get to the messages and lock up one of my Tivos that hasn't made a call in 380+ days.

I don't know that there is a way to clear the message box once it gets to this mode. (Other than reimaging the hard drive.)

You can clear the message box by doing a "Clear and Delete Everything". Of course, you'll lose everything else along with the message, but you won't have to reimage the drive.

Bleh, I figured as much. Why those messages don't have an expiration date on them, I don't understand.
Thanks.
