What's wrong with my Tivo? (pixelation)

.Hi - I have a wonderful 6-year old Series 1 HRD-312. It has the original 30GB fireball plus a 40GB Maxtor I added in 2001. Recently, about 1 out of every 4 programs is significantly pixelated. Questions:

Is it likely to be one of the drives (I mean, what else could it be?).

If it is the drive, I could pull both and put in a 160GB Seagate I happen to have lying around, (and I can ask details on what to do in the upgrade center - my old backup isn't the latest SW rev).

But - I'd hate to do the upgrade and have it NOT be the drive - any thought as to what else causes this?

Could be a reception problem. Any changes in the hardware that provides the signal?

No changes in hardware or signal. I know what you're talking about, my DCT6412 does that sometimes. TiVo never did this before, and it's on analog channels that it's doing it. (i.e., I don't use a cable box with my TiVo, it takes the signal right off the wire).

Interesting thought though, if somehow my neighborhood signal has weakened....

I am having a smiliar problem but only with two channels - Spike TV (channel 53 where I live) and HGTV (channel 56 where I live). No problems on any other channels.

I have a series 2 that was hooked up in December 2003. I changed from dial-up to wireless several months ago which is coincidentally, around the same time the problems started.

Any suggestions on how to correct this? I Tivo a Simply Quilts program on HGTV everyday since it's on when I work, but I may have to switch back to the VCR taping if I can't get this fixed.
