Question PPP Serial Connection Problems

Yesterday evening I made my own serial cable and ran MFD Tools 2. Last night I had SecureCRT running at the "bash-2.02#" prompt.

Today I setup my PC to accept the call from my Tivo and route it to the Internet. I am still in the guided setup and at the 'Test Phone Connection' screen. I used a dial prefix of ",#296." I passed the 'Preparing' and 'Dialing' but fail at the 'Connecting' section.

I get the following error: "Failed. Service unavailable."

In my 'Network Connections' I see <Unauthenticated User> pop up when TiVo tries to connect while making the Test Call. I double clicked on the <Unauthenticated User> to show the Status of the request and the clicked on 'Details' to show me the assigned IP addresses for client and server. Which happens to be the same IP address as my computer.

I tried running SecureCRT but get "Unabe to open serial port COM1: Access denied." But I think that's because I setup my PC to accept calls from my Tivo. This is where I am stuck. Can someone plese help me?

Thanks in advance!!!

You probably want to assign static IPs different from the router's IP assigned to your computer. It sounds like a conflict. Your serial cable sounds OK since you got the bash-prompt. You want to make sure you have the modem set for 9600 baud since the TiVo is set for that with ,#296.

Once the modem is set up for Com1 using other programs to try to access Com1 will give an error.

If you like, PM a copy of your "ModemLog_Communications cable between two computers.txt" found in C:\Windows after a re-boot and a Test Call and Daily Call even though they fail. Perhaps we can see some more areas that need attention?

Good luck.

So restart my computer, try the test call in the Tivo and pm you the "ModemLog_Communications cable between two computers.txt?"

***edit***

I had to restart my Tivo, the only way to do that during the guided setup is to unplug it and now it just keeps rebooting. It had done this twice before and the only way to get it to stop is restore the backup. And you know what that means, yup I have to start all over again. I have been messing with my Tivo since 5pm yesetday and I need to step away from it for a while. But I will pm you that file so you can take a look at it as soon as I restore that backup.

Thanks in advance cactus46!!!

Sorry, Flux, I did not know you were in Guided Setup!
