Question TiVo hangs unless network cable disconnected

Hi all,

Has anyone else seen this before? (sorry for the long winded description to follow!)

My TiVo has been running happily for several years but this morning it has hung. No lights on the front, no response to any button input etc. etc.

I rebooted, got the usual Cachecard loading screen followed by the 'A few minutes more' and then it hung. I can ping the TiVo at this point but I can't telnet or ftp, which has been working for years.

I took the case off to check if any cables had become lose or if the drives were not spinning, reseated the Cachecard and it booted

I put it all together, rebooted and it hung in the same place

After much messing about, I worked out that if the network cable was unplugged from the router, the TiVo booted normally. If not, it hung.

If I plugged the network cable in after it booted normally it hung a few seconds later.

Has anyone seen this before?

The TiVo menus are appearing at 'Cachecard speeds' so the caching part is working but it looks like the network part isn't.

BTW My config is:-
Two 80Gb drives
Cachecard with 512Mb memory
Tioweb
Endpad
Mode0
Hackman
Dailymail
plus many more

Do you have an IP address conflict with Tivo's IP?
I haven't had that problem but that would explain that behaviour in Windows PCs...

Thumbs up

Many thanks, that seems to have cracked it

I was thinking that couldn't possibly be it as I hadn't added any devices to the network.... and then I remembered that I had been fiddling with a network management tool (The Dude) about the time the TiVo hung.

I removed the tool and all is well on the TiVo networking front again!

I am frequently amazed by the breadth & depth of knowledge on this forum
