The 4400: "The New World" S03E01 6/11 ** Spoilers **

I could find a lot of stuff to be critical about, but on the whole I liked it. Looks like the Nova group is going to be the big focus this year. I was hoping we'd get a little more info regarding the 4400's purpose, "saving the future", etc.

I'm not sure what to say about the ending. Could have been better for sure. I'm sure there will be a few comments on that.

I'll keep watching.

This was a lot of setup again, they're taking the show in a somewhat new direction.

Maia looked quite a bit older.

Looks like there is quite the diversity in the 4400 powers... if I was a regular human living in that world, I'd be pretty scared too.

I'm starting to get ticked every time I see that overused "end montage with bittersweet song playing over it" that a lot of shows do these days... it's a lazy way to create some emotion.

The interrogation of the mindreader was interesting. That technique, "waterboarding" (where they simulate drowning, to force the subject to talk), is what the President, the Secretary of Defense, et al, have (at least implicitly) allowed for use on "enemy combatants" in US custody. The government argues that this is not "cruel, inhuman or degrading" treatment and so the US should be able to use it. This is the first time I've seen this technique in a drama, done the way reports about prisoner abuse have described it. A nice detail, I thought.

Thanks for the info. I am glad to see we have the right people in the right jobs.

Yeah I do think Lily is dead...

Overall thought it was a good Premiere.

I'm very very curious about Isabelle, I'm expecting her to be the equivalent to a class 5 mutant in x-men terms. There is just too much foreshadowing for her not to be a bad-ass

Btw what is up with the assitant guy who gave her the serum that would kill her. He says he knows her purpose but we never get told what it is, just hints. After collier died I originally suspected this was Collier ressurrected but now we see him saying he going to take care of re-re-returned Collier, and I'm left wondering really who is this guy?

My last question is do we think Daniel from the Nova group is going to launch a personal attack on Sean or the 4400 center now for Sean's betrayal?

I hate the Riley character, the one that got stabbed and who was the previous leader.

As for Billy Campbell...

Spoiler:
Apparently he still isn't back from his around-the-world boat trip, and they're most of the way through filming already, so if he is back this season, it won't be until near the end.

How come Sean can't fix the leader of the Nova group's teeth?

Nah, that's not an illness anymore than old age is an illness. If he could cure the leader's teeth, he could make Lily young again.

That bugged the hell out of me. Looked like they dragged a homeless actor off the street and offered him the role. I hope that was the look they were going for.

Odd, then, because he was listed in last night's credits.

I love this quote in that article:
Quote:
Behr didn't detail the issue that led to Allen's departure from the show, but confirmed that it was "a business thing. Yeah. It was not a creative decision, ultimately. It was a business decision. And, as I was saying, there's ... just so many things that I'm sure you hear all the time from people on shows. They're just money decisions and business decisions, and there's a lot of people with a lot of say in all these things. A lot of people who have to answer to a lot of other people who don't have any dealings with [us], and it just ... got out of hand. And, suddenly, there you go. So you just move on."
What a way with words that guy has!

Yes, but you'll notice that the only "appearances" he made were old footage.

Yeah, I forgot about the "flashback" footage. Couldn't they do post-production work on earlier-filmed episodes, editing him in before they air?

Word - I was really hoping it would finally be the end of Peter Coyote's character. And then they teased us when the telepath tried to kill him. Dang - his acting is so wooden that I find it to be a distraction in any scene he appears in.

I really didn't care for the Richard and Lilly storyline and to me it was tiresome. I'm glad that now they can concentrate on some of the other characters and move on.

Also, one thing I can't get out of my head is the guy that supposedly showed up to help Shawn. To me he's still the wacko from 7 Days that tried to infect the world with a virulent flu. His new hairdo makes him even more creepy.

Anyone think that maybe he's not in control, much like Kyle wasn't?

Just watched last night. It sets up some interesting issues for the season, but it was pretty slow moving. My wife fell asleep about 1:15 into it so she got up and went to bed. I fell asleep in the last 20 minutes and kept waking up and having to rewind. I think the last 20 minutes took me about 45 minutes to watch. Therefore, any emotion that I was supposed to feel at the end was completely lost on me, but I hate those types of endings anyway, where they try to throw cliffhangers to several storylines into a quick sequence without any dialogue.

Interesting that Isabelle was ready to kill herself when she jumped off the roof, but that she couldn't do it when she had the serum that Ross gave her. Ross has turned into quite the sinister character and it will be interesting to see what his role is in all of this. As far as I can remember, we have no idea how he is/was tied to Jordan Collier or even who he is, just that he showed up after Jordan's death claiming that Collier wanted him to help in the event of Collier's death and he was so forceful and charismatic that nobody questioned him. Now we see that he wants to eliminate Collier, so my guess is that he has sinister designs for the 4400 and was never charged by Collier to provide leadership at all.

I know that Lily was a big character in the previous seasons, but I just didn't care at all about her in this episode. She served her purpose, which was bringing Isabelle into the world. I don't really care what happens to her anymore and I'm kind of glad they killed her off. The scenes with her just dragged the show down and served no purpose.

I always felt that way about Richard. Lily at least had ties to the present that gave her a storyline outside of Isabel. And it didn't hurt that Laura Allen is easy on the eyes.

I may be off base here (and it wouldn't be the first time), but she wasn't aware that her death could help Lily live before she tried to jump to her death, was she? And, it was only after new-harido, creepoid guy inferred to her that her death WOULD help Lily that she contemplated the injection. Which makes it even stranger that she tried to kill herself first, then decided not to with the serum.

Nope, she thought her death would help before the first atempt.

At least I'm not the only one who thinks Peter Coyote is not a good actor, or at least his portrayal of this character is bad. To me it seems like he is over-acting, and is too dramatic.. Another actor who does this, and who I cant stand is David Caruso (sp?) from CSI: Miami

Caruso is such a poser. I like him in CSI miami but at the end of every scene he's posing for the camera. LOL!

They tried to cover a lot and at times it seemed like they jumped around quite a bit. I'm suprised Diana didn't report Dr.Burkhoff or at least be a little more active. I'd also really like to know what Matthew Ross knows about Isabelle and what he's going to do.

GREAT interview! My favorite part: he blue his beard!

He had a blue beard when on Shatner's Star Trek documentary a few months ago. Very cool.

No. It's the sign of good casting. The casting director is to get kudos for that.
