Rescue Me: Do I still need to pad FX recordings?

I haven't TiVo'd anything off of the FX network in quite a while (I think first-run Nip/Tuck was the last thing). I was wondering if anybody who currently TiVo's the channel can tell me if they have improved their accuracy with regards to their clock being in sync with everybody else's clock.

I recall often needing to pad recordings by as much as 3 or 4 minutes because they were so out of sync. The only channel worse then them in that regard was MTV.

So now that Rescue Me is starting up again, should I be padding my SP?

I start 1 minute early and let it record 5 minutes late. Since there is nothing else at that time I record it is no big deal for me.

My internet listings show the 3rd season premiere to be 65 minutes long. So yes, I would pad.

Well, the guide data actually takes the 65 minute length into account, so one doesn't need to pad specifically for that. It's the fact that FX's clock is frequently out of sync with the rest of the world that is something one does need to pad for.

With a 5 minute pad the recording length will be 70 minutes.

I pad everything on FX, they'll throw an odd length movie on earlier in the day, and dont' get back on time till the wee hours of latenight.

After I missed the endings of a couple Rescue Me's (including last seasons finale), and more endings of The Shield, I pad them all 5 minutes and haven't lost one yet.

Ahh! I was wondering why their clocks seemed so randomly messed up.

So what's Comedy Central's excuse?

I see that the first airing at 10 is 65 mins, but I have other things set to record then, so it's recording the episode right after it at 11:05, but the problem is it only goes to 12, so it's only 55 mins. What's up with that? I guess I should just add 10 mins (or more it sounds like) to make sure I get it.

I noticed that too, and then when it's replayed later in the week it's 60 minutes. I'm willing to bet that during the first showing, they sold more commercial time, thus the extra 5 minutes. Also there's probably less commercials sold in the repeat imediately following. (If you look at next week, it's the same deal 65 minutes followed by 55 minutes.)

I'm going to be brave and not pad. I really hate doing it because it makes handling conflicts more difficult. If I end up missing part of it, they replay it usually around 4 times a week so I can catch it then. However, I've never padded rescue me, and I've never missed any of the show.

For me, that guide data for the 2nd Tuesday night showing (of any FX drama, not just Rescue) is usually wrong. It might say it will end right on the hour, but 9 times out of 10 it will run past the hour.

And yes, FX's clock is always screwed up. It's gotten to the point where I don't even want to Tivo anything on that channel anymore. I just use my DVD recorder and pad by 20 minutes on each side!

Dang it!!! I wanted to watch Justice again so 1. I could remember what was going on and 2. to see the last few minutes of it that I had missed.

They started it about half way through the hour. It was about 30 minutes late. No padding would have saved that one. What a stupid channel.

Becides missing the ending of almost all the shows we want to record half the time its not even the right show. Is it strictly that FX is out of sync or could there be something else going on? granted it is only the FX Channel we have probelms with but its really ticking us off.

I think I saw a commercial during the Shield saying it was starting again in June

And slightly OT, but how the heck does a Rescue Me fan not watch the Shield?

Never miss Rescue Me, never watch the Shield. Never caught my interest.

For what it's worth, tv.com says Tuesday, June 12. http://www.tv.com/rescue-me/show/24321/summary.html Scroll down to the "Episodes" section.

I've been recording the repeats of Rescue Me that FX is playing on Fri or Sat night and they've been starting and ending in the time specified. They do start at weird times though like 12:07am. Hopefully they got their crap together and the new episodes won't need padding.

After the very first couple of episodes of The Shield (5 seasons ago?) I started padding anything I record on FX. I've got the TiVos to do it and it only makes sense to me - why risk it?

I've seen every episode of Rescue Me but have never seen a single minute of The Shield.

You need to remedy that. It'd be right up your alley. Before The Shield, I always told people I didn't like "cop shows". Then again, Vic Mackey's a "different kind of cop".
