"Close to Home" Season Finale 5/19/06
That last scene was just plain mean. There was no cause for that at all.

I agree... they threw in a dramatic scene that really had nothing to do with any story line from the series.. Like they had to for the sake of it..
Boy that Annabeth has some red eyes, looks like she's always about to cry.

It was a trend in this years finales. Big bangs, dead (or dying ) bodies. I don't remember a year as extreme as this one.

But I think most of the other shock endings had something to do with the storyline. This was just out of the blue. "Annabeth is juggling her roles as prosecutor and mother way too easily. It's boring. So let's make her a prosecutor who's a single mother. Yeah! Now she can start dating and have romances with dangerous felons!"

I used to watch "Angel" and just never quite got used to Lindsay with Annabeth...
I was just expecting Melinda Gordon to come and help Jack talk to Annabeth. All these season finales are running together. Even Numb3rs seems to fit that theme...

Very sad ending. Maybe the guy wanted off the show.
Maybe they figured the show wasn't going to be renewed, so they wanted to go out with a bang? Who knows.
I really like this show and am glad it was renewed

Thank goodness he's dead! The show started out as a crappy Lifetime movie of the week knockoff and slowly evolved into a decent suburban legal drama. For a while, it was impossible to watch an episode without her going on and on about her baby or her husband. Annabeth might finally become interesting.
I still cant put a finger on why I like Jennifer Finnigan so much.

Wow, tell us how you really feel
And I don't recall any episode about her going on and on about her baby and husband -what have you been watching?

I agree that the last scene was totally unnecessary. It had nothing to do with the show.
This has been a season of regular characters to die or be seriously injured.

They toned down the constant "My baby! And by the way, my baby!" stuff near the end of the season. I mean come on, we get it, the show is called "Close To Home" and so the crimes are close... to home.
You're probably wondering then why I watch the show.
1) Jennifer Finnigan. I like her. I was probably the only person who watched all 13 episodes of Committed, where she played Marnie.
2) I'll take legal drama wherever I can get it.

No, you would not be the only one. I first knew of her through Crossing Jordan. I didn't watch whatever soap she was on though.

She also made some appearances on The Dead Zone and was considered a romantic interest for Johnny Smith. She appeared in that now infamous "Christmas" episode, which did no one any credit. Of course, her current gig would limit her role on TDZ, which is too bad.

So much tragedy in this years season finales, Ed shot on Las Vegas, Cap. Brass on CSI, people getting blown up, killed becoming fugitives- Crossing Jordan. Now Annabeth loses her husband. And, the show may change locaction from my Indianapolis. that's even sadder. MF

I've been wondering why the heck anyone would base a legal drama in Indy. How about a more crime-infested city like Detroit or Cleveland?
[I just spent this weekend there.]

Anyone Would Love Having A TV Show Set In Their City
Or nearby. There have been shows set in Detroit and Cleveland. What we don't need is another crime drama set in New York (Law & Disorder, anyone?) or Las Angeles (LAPD Blue, perhaps?). It's refreshing having a show set in the Heartland, away from the East and West Coasts. MF

True, and with a show being outside NY and LA, you dont get a sense that fictional worlds are colliding. For example, when watching CSI NY, I quietly wonder if Jack McCoy is prosecuting the case.
St Louis has only dumb criminals...

...so if there was a crime show here, it would be a sitcom.

I'll join the parade of "Why" answers. Something like 90% of the US population doesn't live in NY or LA yet something like 90% of programming is based on those two cities. I'll have to admit that California in general, Chicago, and Florida (maybe just Miami) fight for the number 3 slot.
Note to fact checkers: Please insert the corrected percentages in your minds and don't bother me
It's rather nice to see a show based in some other place. Indeed even a crime and prosecution show based in a town not notorious for crime and prosecution.
You may never want to see the reporters from 60 Minutes at your door, but it is somewhat uplifting to know that the media is at least aware of your state as something other than the punchline to a joke.

People used to call it "India-no-place". There once was an article in Sports Illustrated, titled "10 Things I Love About Major League Baseball". #7 was "I'll never have to visit Indianapolis". But, with Conseco Fieldhouse, the new $500 million stadium, etc. it's a great place. Proud Hoosier MF

I'm surprised nobody discussed the actual case, I thought this one was pretty interesting. But I doubt anyone will remember now, I'm so far behind. I was glad they didn't let them walk with the first deal they proposed. I wasn't convinced that their clientele wasn't mostly high school kids in the first place, and the kids (the two that killed the reporter) were far from innocent victims. Granted we found out later that there were some grown adults among their customers, but at the same time we found out the boy was even more guilty than we'd thought, blackmailing them. (Btw, how did she explain to the other customers why she'd always be addressing "Billy"?)
I'm glad they were able to pull together enough evidence to put the kids away for a long time and still get enough info to prosecute the customers. I certainly think the grown men who were paying to watch these minors should be prosecuted, but I don't think they would have been worth letting premeditated murderers, whose motive was to maintain their lucrative website, walk free. I'm not saying they weren't perverts, but there was really no indication that they were the predators they kept referring to them as. Those girls who were playing strip poker for the camera were doing so voluntarily and enthusiastically, and IIRC not even making money from it.
